🔬 Forensic Clues Hidden in Old Dental Fillings 🦷

With guidance from Simen E. Kopperud and Hanne Wellendorf from NIOM the two master’s students, Embla Victoria Eggum and Rebekka Rún Scheving, from Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) have explored how dental composites - materials used in tooth fillings - can help identify individuals in forensic cases.

By analyzing aging patterns and chemical signatures, their work at NIOM shows that even old dental restorations can reveal valuable forensic clues.

Their findings point to a promising intersection of dentistry and forensic science.

• Forebygging
• Behandling

📅 5. juni kl. 17:00 - 18.30

New study highlights key findings on biofilm accumulation and removal for root caries prevention 🦷

A new study by NIOM and collaborators, published in Biomaterial Investigations in Dentistry, sheds light on how Streptococcus mutans biofilm accumulates and is removed from enamel and root surfaces. With root caries affecting one-third of the elderly population, these findings highlight the need for targeted prevention. The research shows that biofilm grows similarly on both surfaces, but is more effectively removed from enamel with water and toothpaste. This could help refine dental care strategies, especially for older adults.

Du vil blant annet få innblikk i:

We believe in knowledge sharing!

Introducing "5-minutes" – a presentation given by one of our employees each week. We use this as a platform where we invite them to talk about a specific topic that is relevant to them. This could be their latest project, an instrument, a method, or something personal that they found interesting. We see that this engages our employees, creates good discussions, and helps our employees grow.

Research has shown that employees love to learn – so we encourage you to introduce this to your organisation. Let us grow together!😊
