It’s called the birth pause - and it’s the brief moment that some moms and parents need before picking up their baby.
The experience of birth is transcendent, and when it’s fast, it’s all the emotions at once.
This moment allows the parent to exhale from birth and then to inhale the presence of their child.

Dad announces it’s a girl.

Family unit intact, bonding and celebrating normal birth.

Do you understand how much grooming, bullying, abuse and coercion families have had to endure for them to come to the belief that what you see in this video is “gross and dangerous”?

For a long time, I have reflected on and analyzed what my work entails, the circumstances in which it unfolds, and my place within them. I have felt a desire to find a deeper understanding of the process of birth, of the system, and of my work. I think of a hospital birth where warm bodies embrace each other while gloved midwives check monitors and tables with sterile instruments are wheeled in. I think of births at home, with families in bed, bellies in bathtubs, and birthing women rocked by gentle hands. My role—the role of the doula—is often on my mind.

First time mothers do not need a negative hospital experience to “earn” the right to autonomy.

They do not need to be traumatized by birth in order to make different choices later.

Some women know even before conception that they want to give birth at home. That knowing matters.

Because they prep not just physically but mentally and have a deep rooted faith in their bodies to function as they are made to do.

There was no reprogramming of the mind from the damage culture does with scaring women surrounding pregnancy and birth

Actually quite the opposite for this beautiful soul

Her mother is a birthworker 💕 and pure love as I envisioned

There was no fear growing up about birth.

and it showed those early morning hours I spent with her and her adoring husband who never left her side.
