We, a network of organizations working on women's rights in Chitwan district, express our serious concern regarding the proposed amendments to the Muluki Criminal Code 2074, Muluki Civil Code 2074, and related legal procedures. These draft amendments, prepared by the Ministry of Law, Government of Nepal, raise significant issues in the context of gender justice.

In particular, we are deeply troubled by the proposed changes to Section 175 of the Muluki Criminal Code, which appear to legitimize or institutionalize polygamy. Such a move would be a serious setback in the fight against gender-based violence and the protection of women's rights.

In response, 55 organizations have come together to submit a joint letter of concern through the District Administration Office.
