New IVF Donor Regulations Issued by Nepal’s Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health and Population has issued new, comprehensive standards under the Infertility Management Service Operation Standards, 2082 BS, to uphold ethical, safe, and transparent infertility treatments. Key provisions include:

1. Donor Age: Only individuals aged 20–35 may donate s***m or eggs.

2. Health Certification: Donors must undergo mandatory screening confirming they are free from infectious diseases.

3. Spousal Consent: Married donors must obtain written consent from their spouse.

4. Donation Limits:
Men may donate s***m up to 10 times, with a minimum interval of 15 days between donations.
Women may donate eggs up to 6 times, with a mandatory gap of 3 months between donations.

5. Confidentiality: Donor identities must remain strictly confidential; only coded records are permitted. Coordination across clinics must prevent duplication of donors.

6. No Coercion or Incentives: Any form of coercion, inducement, or undue incentive to donors is strictly prohibited.
