(Antimicrobial Resistance 2024)

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites develop resistance to the drugs designed to kill them, making infections harder to treat.

AMR is a global health threat in 2024, with projections of 10 million deaths annually by 2050 if left unaddressed.

Overuse and misuse of antibiotics in humans, animals, and agriculture contribute to this crisis.

Key focus areas in 2024 include:

1. Global Surveillance: Monitoring resistant strains globally.

2. Stewardship Programs: Rational use of antibiotics in healthcare.

3. Research & Innovation: Development of new antibiotics and alternatives.

4. Public Awareness: Educating about the dangers of self-medication and overuse of antimicrobials.

Efforts are guided by the WHO’s Global Action Plan to combat AMR through a “One Health” approach that integrates human, animal, and environmental health strategies.

Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious mental disorder that negatively affects how you feel, think, act, and perceive the world.

Nearly three in ten adults (29%) have been diagnosed with depression at some point in their lives and about 18% are currently experiencing depression, according to a 2023 national survey. Women are more likely than men and younger adults are more likely than older adults to experience depression. While depression can occur at any time and at any age, on average it can first appear during one’s late teens to mid-20s.

Symptoms of depression symptoms can vary from mild to severe and can appear differently in each person.
