American Diabetes Association 2024 guidelines- some important summary
1. Fasting blood glucose 100 to 125 is now considered pre-diabetic(previously 110 to 125)
2. Moderate physical activity( for example brisk walking) 150min per week is recommended to all( divided in atleast 3days per week)
3. Weight loss of 7% if overweight( BMI >23)
4. Target HBA1C 7%, Fasting blood sugar 80-130 and PP 10, blood glucose >300
6. For Heart disease and Chronic kidney disease patients new drugs SGLT2 inhibitor and GLP1 RA are preferred drugs
7. For T2DM, GLP1RA more preferred than insulin
8. Urinary albumin to creatinine ratio, Ophthalmology examination, examination for neuropathy( example foot care) should be done annually in diabetic patient
9. Diabetic retinopathy may progress in pregnancy
10. Metformin is not recommended during pregnancy
