Birth injuries is defined as "an impairment of the neonates body function or structure due to an adverse event that occured at birth".

Fracture of the femur is extremely rare in newborns

This is the second case of neonatal fracture that I have encountered.
The first was a difficult vaginal breech extraction leading to a fracture of the femur
The second case (pic) was a case of twin delivery where the twin limbs were entangled with each other leading to femur fracture in one twin.

Ever noticed pink spots/stains in your baby's diaper? Worried that your baby is passing blood in the urine?

Sometimes, due to highly concentrated urine, there may be presence of urate crystals in the urine which is seen in the diaper as red-orange spots.

While they are generally seen in the newborn period and usually disappears once feeding is established, it may also be seen in older children who are taking less fluids throughout the day.

It is always better to consult a pediatrician to confirm that it is not blood (which can be a sign of UTI or other conditions for which a urine examination may be advised).

Increasing fluid/feeds in the child's diet can resolve the issue. If the spots are seen for more than 3-4 days, please consult your pediatrician.

OPD visit by our NICU graduate, a case of HIE Grade II with Meconium Aspiration Syndrome.
Baby is 18 months of age and doing neurologically well.
This baby was my first heli-rescue from Janakpur and we were so glad to discharge this baby after 30days of NICU stay ❤️
Times when working in the NICU feels like the best thing.

Most of Nepal is suffering from dengue, hospital beds are full of patients who've tested positive for Dengue!!! Children haven't been spared either.. everyday more and more febrile children attend OPDs and test positive for Dengue.

Please follow safety measures to prevent mosquito bites and stay safe.

Febrile seizure

One of the most frightening thing a parent has to witness is, their child having a seizure.

Febrile seizures are abnormal movements of the body caused by a sudden rise in temperature of >100.4°F.

In some cases, the child first has a seizure at home and is noticed to have a fever when they are brought to the hospital.

FS usually occur in children between 6 - 60 months of age.

Some children (those with a family history of seizures, 1st seizure at an early age, low degree of fever before seizures) may have a recurrence of seizure.

There are 2 types of febrile seizures:
A simple febrile seizure - a generalized type of seizure, lasting

Teachers are really under-appreciated beings. They work day and night to make sure that the children learn so that they may eventually be ready to deal with the outside world, while all the while maintaining their sanity.

Just a few simple words of appreciation makes it all seem worth it, so when you can do say "Thank you" to those who have taught you a thing or two to make you who you are today.
