It is deeply concerning to learn that sensitive user credentials associated with the domains “mec.gov.np”, “nmc.org.np”, and “exam.nmc.org.np” have been detected in a data breach, as flagged by Apple OS. These warnings confirm that passwords from these government health portals have been compromised and are potentially accessible to malicious actors.

Such breaches are not merely technical oversights as they carry grave consequences for medical students, doctors, and medical professionals who depend on these portals for critical services such as licensing, examination, and registration. Compromised accounts may lead to:
• Unauthorised access to personal and professional records
• Identity theft and credential fraud
• Loss of trust in public digital infrastructure

As custodians of sensitive medical and educational data, the Nepal Medical Council and Medical Education Commission bear an undeniable ethical and institutional responsibility to:
1. Acknowledge the breach publicly and transparently.
2. Inform affected users about the extent of the compromise.
3. Implement immediate security upgrades and password resets.
4. Disclose what steps are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

In an era where cyberattacks and data leaks are becoming alarmingly common, institutional silence is not an option. Proactive communication, technical vigilance, and public accountability must be at the forefront of every government body dealing with citizen data.

We urge both NMC and MEC to take this matter with the seriousness it demands, not just to preserve their credibility, but to protect the dignity, privacy, and professional security of thousands of Nepali medical students and professionals.
