Before all things, when nothing but the divine existed, concepts of time were a nothingness. And then, at the throw of a dice, the yugas, the ages of humankind came into being. The Kṛta Yuga began this passage of time, when humanity bowed at the feet of the Gods and bathed in an age of ultimate truth, goodness and light. The Goddess Dharma, the governess of universal morality stood on all four legs and humankind flourished in this ‘golden age’ of balance.
As time moved forward, humanity descended through the yugas and into this current age. The Kali Yuga, an age of darkness, a selfish age, when the ancient rituals are long since forgotten and the Goddess Dharma stands precariously on one leg. Yet, it is in this age that humanity reaches out of the darkness to grab hold of the light of yoga, seeking to unify the individual self, jiva ātman with the supreme self, parama ātman. Rooted in these truths and born out of a friendship grounded in love, a lesser known age, Yoga Yuga came into being.
Yoga Yuga, ‘the age of yoga’, began life in a small yoga studio in Kathmandu during the monsoon of 2015. Based on the belief that through the various practices of yoga, a glimmer of the ‘golden age’ can be accessed and brought into this present moment. From their collective knowledge of yoga practices and philosophy, Ramesh and Yasmin, the founders of Yoga Yuga, seek to empower those they teach to find a sense of inner light and peace in the outward chaos of this ever-expanding universe. The ‘age of yoga’ is a process of relearning oneself and of coming home to the truth that there is only one humankind, made up of beautiful, individual beings that together form the whole. Yoga not only unifies the self with the divine, but it allows those that practice to extend the love and joy they find on the mat into every aspect of daily life, thus stabilising the Goddess Dharma so that she may stand firm, perfectly balanced on the single leg of this age.
With love & light Ramesh & Yasmin ૐ
