The National Federation of the Deaf Nepal, the Society of Deafblind Parents, and the Deafblind Association Morang jointly organized the first-ever historic celebration of the International Day of Persons with Deafblindness. This day also marks the birthday of Helen Keller, the first deafblind person to complete higher education, and a renowned author, activist, and writer.
In the eastern part of Nepal, in Biratnagar the capital of Koshi Province a grand awareness rally was held under the theme “Breaking Barriers, Building Connections.” The rally was inaugurated by the Deputy Mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, Mrs. Shilpa Nirala Karki. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the provincial and local governments, Deaf schools, Adarsha Inclusive School, various OPDs, and community-based organizations.
Following the rally, an interaction program was organized, where Mrs. Durga Bhandari Baral attended as the chief guest. During the event, she officially launched the Global Deafblindness Resource Hub.
