Symptoms of depression and anxiety, common mental health conditions, have been found to increase the risk of AD. Evidence suggests that depressive symptoms, whilst potentially representing a risk factor for AD, additionally could be an early symptom of neurodegeneration, and a reaction to early cognitive deficits. Anxiety symptoms as a risk factor for dementia, emphasising the need for early intervention in midlife to potentially mitigate this risk. Similarly found that late-life depressive symptoms are associated with an increased risk of all-cause dementia, including AD and vascular dementia. Evidence highlights the importance of managing depressive symptoms to potentially delay or prevent the onset of dementia.

Dementia: Vitamin B12 deficiency - vitamin B12 deficiency is when there is not enough of the B12 vitamin in your body. This can cause a multitude of symptoms, including a cognitive decline. Vitamin B-12 (cobalamin) plays an essential role in red blood cell formation, cell metabolism, nerve function and the production of DNA, the molecules inside cells that carry genetic information. Food sources of vitamin B-12 include poultry, meat, fish and dairy products. Vitamin B-12 is also added to some foods. Because vitamin B12 contains the mineral cobalt, compounds with vitamin B12 activity are collectively called “cobalamins”. Vitamin B12 is required for the development, myelination, and function of the central nervous system; healthy red blood cell formation; and DNA synthesis.
