It is hard to imagine that a victim of infertility would in the long run become a hope for infertile couples. And yet this is how Creator’s IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd. came into being.
The year was 1996, when after a year of marriage, Dr. Sanu Maiya Shrestha had not been able to conceive, and she decided to visit a renowned gynecologist. On the basis of a short clinical history and a semen analysis, Dr. Shrestha was prescribed hormonal medicine which did not help her. She was highly stressed and began thinking it was a curse to be born infertile in a developing country where there is acute lack of expertise and where technology is sub optimal. Her doctor barely spent 2 minutes during consultation, which failed to provide the emotional support Dr. Shrestha needed. Finally, she decided to change her doctor and it turned out to be a good decision as the second doctor provided her with emotional support and time, filling Dr. Shrestha with optimism. Once again in 1997, Dr. Shrestha faced a crossroad, the decision to have a child or to take a position in England for her Membership of Royal College of Obstetricians Gynaecologists (MRCOG). She decided to have a child. And today, Dr. Shrestha is mother to two amazing angel daughters. Her personal experience with infertility inspired her to want to contribute her skills in this field, and her dream came true when she was awarded the AUS AID Scholarship to do her post graduate at University of New South Wales (UNSW), and especially when she was given a chance to conduct a research project in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). She also met her mentors who were her supervisors Dr. Michael Costello (at present Lecturer in UNSW, Sydney and IVF Specialist in IVF Australia) and Co-Supervisor Late Dr. Peter Sjoblom (Former Scientific Director of Nurture IVF centre, Nottingham, United Kingdom).
In 2004, Dr. Shrestha returned back home, with renewed passion and knowledge to work in the field of ART. She had the chance to work at OM IVF Centre with Indian IVF specialists, Dr. Narendra Malhotra and Jaydeep Malhota from 2004 to 2007, who became her second mentors in this field. She is thankful to Dr. Bhola Rijal, Chairman of Om Hospital and Research Centre for the opportunity. In 2007, after spending three years at OM IVF Centre, Dr. Shrestha proceeded to start another centre, IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd. This centre germinated out of her own initiation and was financially realized through the help of Dr. Gyanendra Man Singh Karki (Senior Consultant Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon). Since its foundation, IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd has served thousands of infertile couples. The first batch of IVF Treatment was conducted in December 2007, and the first IVF baby, Bigyan Shrestha, was born on August 1, 2008 to Gyanendra Shrestha and Bimala Shrestha.
On October 18, 2015 under the leadership of Dr. Shrestha, the team of IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd. moved from Global Hospital premises to Satdobato with a new name - Creator’s IVF Nepal Pvt. Ltd., improved facilities and bigger goals to contribute in the field of ART.
