Our final school visit in Nepal brought the whole team together for a day of preventive lessons, as well as medical and dental check-ups for all the children.
Although heavy rain kept us indoors, the school director generously made the library available, providing a welcoming space where we could continue our work. At the end of the day, we joined the pupils on their school bus ride home, a joyful and memorable way to close this special visit!
It was a day filled with learning, care, and bright smiles, a heartfelt conclusion to our journey through the schools of Nepal!

The next school we visited was Chisakhola Veda Vidyashram, an all-boys school where we spent one full day. We began with preventive lessons in small groups, rotating so that every class could participate. Later in the day, all the children received medical and dental check-ups.
Thanks to strong teamwork, the invaluable support of our translators and the enthusiasm of the pupils, we were able to complete everything on time. The day ended with heartfelt speeches, traditional Nepali music, and dancing, a wonderful celebration to end a meaningful visit!🩺🦷🇳🇵

The fifth school on our list this year was Shree Siddha Baraha Basic School. Altough a few kids were at home because of holidays, we were welcomed by a group of very enthousiastic children and teachers. We started right away with our usual prevention lessons.
After our hands were washed, teeth were brushed and we played a game of volleybal during break, it was time for a health check as well. The children got measured, ears and eyes were checked and the lungs were listened to. For the first time during our project, we also did three small dental procedures! Another step in the right direction to better health care!

One off the next schools we visited was Shree Deurali Basic School. The first day all kids were seen by one of our (student) doctors and dentists. After that the kids went home to get some good rest for the prevention lessons. Here too, we washed our hands and brushed our teeth. We also learned what to do after getting a burn or cut.
During our time in the schools, communication is very important. In basic schools specifically, the children are younger overall and therefore usually know less English. We always try to use a lot of pictures and portray as much as we can. With the help of teachers who can translate our explanations, the children are able to understand everything even better.
Altough we haven’t visited this school often, we saw a few basics were known already. With our lessons, we expanded that knowledge even further. The kids seemed enthousiastic, so we hope the information sticks until we come back next time to revise it some more!

Our visit to Shukla Gandaki began with goosebumps, the children’s beautiful national anthem framed by the school’s stunning hillside views.
Health day brought full medical and dental check-ups for every child and teacher and we helped some children with referrals to hospitals in Pokhara and even the Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu🦷🩺. Prevention day showed just how well they’ve mastered handwashing and toothbrushing. Popcorn was on the lunch menu, and we ended with joyful dancing, including a lively ‘t Smidje’, before saying goodbye!
A heartfelt thank you to the warm homestay family who hosted us overnight and served us the best dal bhat we’ve ever had!!😋

Over the past few days, we visited the first schools of our summer project. At Shree Nispaksha Secondary School, we kicked off with our prevention day, where we learned together with the children how to properly wash our hands, brush our teeth, what to do in case of burns and cuts, and much more. Since this wasn’t our first visit here, we noticed that many of the children had already mastered these skills — which was great to see and a clear sign that our approach is really working!
On the second day, we organised the health day. Together with a few students and teachers who translated for us, our doctors and medical students provided all the children with a full medical screening. A visit to the dentist, ofcourse, was also included.
In short, these were a few very successful days — on to the next schools!

Our third visit to Bahari Lwang was filled with energy and curiosity! On health day, every child received a full medical and dental check-up from our doctors and medical students.
The next day, prevention day, got a little messy: dirty hands first, then learning how to wash them properly! We brushed teeth together, explored how bacteria can make us sick and the youngest children learned through a fun coloring book. For the older students, we gave lessons on sexual health, covering puberty, pregnancy and safe relationships.
Another wonderful visit and amazing to see how much the children remember from our previous years!🩺🦷
