Since 1988, when the first case of AIDS was detected in Nepal, the HIV epidemic in Nepal has evolved from a low prevalence to concentrated epidemic. With a prevalence of about 0.49% in the adult population approximately 70,000 adults and children are infected with the HIV virus in Nepal1. These data are primarily collected through the facility based case reporting system and regular HMIS.
