Bit of a funny! Wha the heck is any of that mean??

Blending Myofascial Release with Neuromuscular Therapy creates a bit of a secret sauce.

Myofascial Release works on the global system easing fascial restrictions, improving glide, and creating space in the body. Neuromuscular Therapy then comes in more locally and specifically, targeting trigger points, muscle dysfunction, and nerve-related tension.

Together, they don’t just chase pain 👉🏻 they address both the bigger picture and the exact source, helping the body reset more effectively and hold change for longer.

We are back in clinic and refreshed after a long weekend break! ✨🙌🏻

As we head into the colder months, Winter has a funny way of creeping in 👀 less movement, more tension, lower energy… and before you know it, your body is feeling stiff, tired, and a little out of sync.

At Body Restoration, we don’t see massage therapy as a luxury. It’s part of your self-care and your long-term health.

This is your reminder that looking after your body now matters. Not just for how you feel today, but for how you move, work, and live through the season ahead.

Our treatments are designed to do more than just help you relax! 😎 We focus on real results, improving how your body feels and functions.

And sometimes, the best support comes from combining things. Pair your treatment with a yoga session, take a moment to slow down, and give your nervous system a chance to reset. 🧘‍♀️

Stay warm, keep moving, and don’t wait until you’re already sore to start looking after yourself 🤍

Bit of a funny to make you giggle 🤭 is this you?

But in seriousness, you don’t need to have the perfect explanation of what’s going on in your body. Use the analogies and descriptions that might sound mad, we have probably heard them before.

It’s our job! Bring us the messy, confusing symptoms 🧐 We will help you make sense of it and get you moving better ✨🙌🏻

The history of therapeutic massage in New Zealand!

Fair warning: I am not a professional actor or content creator 🫣 But the story of how therapeutic / remedial / clinical massage evolved in Aotearoa is actually pretty fascinating.

From mirimiri practiced by tohunga, to the Tohunga Suppression Act, to massage being illegal for non-physiotherapists for decades… the profession has had a surprisingly complicated journey.

So yes, the reel might be awkward.
But the history? Worth knowing.

Some people start the weekend at the pub. Others start it on the massage table fixing the damage from the week.

Either way… cheers to that. 👏🏻

Club rugby season is here, and we’re excited to have Mia supporting the Napier Marist Premiers this year.

Mia will be working alongside the physio team from CAPE Physio to help keep the boys moving well throughout the season. From recovery support to managing the physical demands of a long rugby season, it’s always great to see massage therapy playing a role in athlete care.

We love being involved with local sport and supporting the people who give so much to their clubs and communities.

Good luck to the Marist Premiers for the season ahead. 🏉

There could be a full-blown production happening outside the treatment room.

A door slams.
Someone laughs too loud.
A child is racing around like a speedway car.
The kettle decides it’s auditioning for MasterChef.

Me: “So sorry about that noise.”
Client:
…snoring softly.
…has left their body.
…currently on a beach somewhere in their subconscious.

And I’m standing there like ???
Did you not hear the mild circus that just happened??

But honestly, once you’re melted into the table and your nervous system has clocked off for the day, the outside world becomes background music.

Mia and I spent the weekend in Hamilton levelling up our hands (and forearms… literally).

We trained with Brian Utting from the US, diving into advanced lower body, hand and forearm techniques ✨ Refining pressure, precision and how we access tissue without just “going harder.”

We’re big believers that good therapists never stop learning. The more we understand the body, the better we can assess, treat and create real change for our clients. Ongoing education isn’t optional for us, it’s part of the standard.

Our brains are full. Our hands are sharper. And we’re very excited to start integrating some of these techniques into clinic.

Client-focused care means progress, re-evaluation, and a plan. Not an endless cycle of “see you next week.”

If your practitioner makes you feel fragile, broken, or like you’ll fall apart doing certain movements or without weekly hands-on work… that’s not empowerment. That’s a business model.

My job isn’t to keep you coming back forever.
My job is to assess, treat when appropriate, educate, and help you build capacity so your body feels capable, not fragile.

Sometimes that includes massage.
Sometimes that includes strength.
Sometimes that includes referring out.

You deserve to understand your body. Not fear it.
