Treating the system, not just the symptoms! Remedial and Wellness Massage Therapy

There could be a full-blown production happening outside the treatment room.

A door slams.
Someone laughs too loud.
A child is racing around like a speedway car.
The kettle decides it’s auditioning for MasterChef.

Me: “So sorry about that noise.”
Client:
…snoring softly.
…has left their body.
…currently on a beach somewhere in their subconscious.

And I’m standing there like ???
Did you not hear the mild circus that just happened??

But honestly, once you’re melted into the table and your nervous system has clocked off for the day, the outside world becomes background music.

Mia and I spent the weekend in Hamilton levelling up our hands (and forearms… literally).

We trained with Brian Utting from the US, diving into advanced lower body, hand and forearm techniques ✨ Refining pressure, precision and how we access tissue without just “going harder.”

We’re big believers that good therapists never stop learning. The more we understand the body, the better we can assess, treat and create real change for our clients. Ongoing education isn’t optional for us, it’s part of the standard.

Our brains are full. Our hands are sharper. And we’re very excited to start integrating some of these techniques into clinic.

Client-focused care means progress, re-evaluation, and a plan. Not an endless cycle of “see you next week.”

If your practitioner makes you feel fragile, broken, or like you’ll fall apart doing certain movements or without weekly hands-on work… that’s not empowerment. That’s a business model.

My job isn’t to keep you coming back forever.
My job is to assess, treat when appropriate, educate, and help you build capacity so your body feels capable, not fragile.

Sometimes that includes massage.
Sometimes that includes strength.
Sometimes that includes referring out.

You deserve to understand your body. Not fear it.

Loving being in pain during a massage is not a flex.
It gives me the ick. I said what I said.

“Deep tissue” doesn’t mean brutal, and pain doesn’t equal effective treatment. You can access deep layers of tissue without hurting someone and in many cases, too much pain just sends the nervous system into full “nope” mode. If you’re clawing on the table getting through a massage, just remember guarded tissue doesn’t fully release…

Effective work feels intentional, safe, and specific not like you survived something.
Your body isn’t impressed by suffering, sorry 💅 So let’s throw “no pain, no gain out” the window.

✨ Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish. ✨
It’s maintenance.
It’s regulation.
It’s you keeping the wheels on so you don’t run on empty.

Each session is guided by education, clinical training, and ongoing learning 🤓 not routines or guesswork.
We assess, listen, adapt, and choose techniques based on your body, your history, and your goals.

Yes, it can feel relaxing.
Yes, it can feel restorative.
But underneath that is a strong foundation of anatomy, physiology, and clinical reasoning.

Because when you understand the body, you can work with it and not just on it.

“So… what kind of massage do you do?” 🤔

It’s not relaxation.
It’s not “deep tissue” pain or sports massage.
It’s not a routine.
And no, we can’t promise we’ll do the same thing twice 😅

We’re clinical remedial massage therapists. We are not a modality but more like the chef. We use different techniques and tools, change it up with trigger point therapy to fascial release with a hint of neuromuscular therapy. Which basically means we listen to your body, not a script. 🙌🏻😎
We assess, adapt, change direction mid-session, and use whatever tools, techniques, and weird-and-wonderful fascia wizardry your body needs that day to create real change.

Every session is custom.
Every body is different.
And yes… we’re very bad at fitting into neat little boxes 📦❌

Think less “cookie-cutter massage”
More “body-specific, goal-driven, fascia-informed problem solving.”

Hard to explain.
Easy to feel 😉

Just a reminder ✨🤗
You don’t have to come every week.
You don’t have to be “consistent enough.”
You don’t fall off our radar if life gets busy.

Bodies change.
Priorities change.
Capacity changes.

If you come once a month, once a year, or disappear for a bit, you’re still our client.
You’re always welcome back. No guilt. No pressure. No lectures 😌

Clinical care isn’t about locking you into a routine.
It’s about meeting you where you’re at when you’re ready.

Your body. Your timing. We’re here when you need us 🤍

Hi, I’m Carina 🌸🙋🏻‍♀️

Clinical Remedial massage therapist and founder of Body Restoration.

I work with people who move, people in pain, and people who feel a bit stuck in their bodies, using calm, fascia-focused, evidence-informed care. I’m especially drawn to chronic and persistent pain, where things aren’t straightforward and listening matters just as much as technique.

I’m a science, fascia, and research nerd currently finishing my massage degree (nearly there!). Exploring new research or topics is definitely a hobby for me rather than a job.

I’m deeply passionate about advocating for higher standards and better recognition within the massage industry across Aotearoa. I was voted in as Co-Chair for Massage Aotearoa New Zealand (MANZ), which is our professional association as an industry, hoping to be part of the change! I also facilitate a local massage group of amazing therapist that meet up to share and inspire each other.

Sessions with me are thoughtful, unrushed, and shaped around what your body can handle on the day. I have a strong focus on the nervous system and getting you into a parasympathetic state. Currently my books are full till April and I only take on new clients by referral. I do have a hard copy wait list that follows me around for any appointments that open up due to cancellations, if you want to be on there send me a message.

Body Restoration takes a clinical, fascia-focused approach rather than relying on routines or pressure for pressure’s sake.

Every treatment is guided by assessment, tissue response, and your body’s capacity on the day.
It’s thoughtful, intelligent hands-on care that prioritises safety, adaptation, and long-term resilience.
