A GROWING PROBLEM

New Zealand and Australia have the highest rates of skin cancer, including melanoma, in the world.

Approximately 50% of all Kiwis will get a skin cancer in their lifetime.

There are different types of skin cancer, melanoma being the most serious.

Over 4000 people are diagnosed with melanoma every year in New Zealand.

Over 350 Kiwis die of melanoma every year.

Introducing Mr Cristian Slough
BMed Sci, BMBS

Cristian is a new transplant to New Zealand. Having worked both in the UK and the USA he is familiar with various different medical systems. Cristian, his wife Carrie (an Audiologist) and their two young sons, decided that a move to New Zealand was the adventure they were looking for and have found working and living in Hawke’s Bay a delight.

Cristian completed undergraduate medical training at the University of Nottingham Medical School, UK 1998 completing his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degrees (BMBS) in 2000. His initial post-graduate years as a junior doctor were undertaken in the UK obtaining his Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons in 2004. After completing a Fellowship in Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Boston USA, he went on to complete a residency in Otolaryngology in at Oregon Health and Sciences University. He then worked in private practice for 10 years in Portland, Oregon, becoming Chief of Staff of his local hospital. After completing his tenure Cristian and his family set their sights on a move to New Zealand to experience the wonderful opportunities this country has to offer.

Andrew did his training in the South Trent region, UK, including 2 years in Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham and a Rhinology Fellowship in Plymouth.

Prior to coming to New Zealand, Andrew was a consultant in Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospitals where he was Programme Director for the Junior Doctors.

ENTHHB would like to welcome Bridget Oliver to the team, expanding our services to include private Speech & Language Therapy.

Bridget is an experienced Speech Language Therapist and a registered member of the New Zealand Speech Language Therapist's Association.

She is offering private speech language therapy to adults with communication and/or swallowing disorders, and children and adults with voice disorders following review by ENT.

Bridget graduated from Massey University in Albany and since she graduated she has worked in a hospital and community setting providing comprehensive assessment and rehabilitation for adults with communication and swallowing disorders.

Bridget also works clinically for Hawkes Bay DHB as a speech language therapist and is the Professional Lead for the SLT team.

Bridget is trained to complete VFSS and FEES for objective instrumental assessment of swallowing. FEES is available onsite at the clinic in Ahuriri. VFSS will require a referral to the DHB.
