Ataahua 🌀💚

SEA URCHIN / KINA - now that the holidays are over, this pounamu piece feels like the right one to start sharing for the year.

🟢 Do you have a tough exterior and a soft inside? The sea urchin will teach this balance of rough and tender. The kina’s spiky exterior can symbolize protection and resilience, reminding us of the strength found in facing life’s challenges. It can connect us to nature, giving the feeling of endurance. Its five-petal pattern can represent harmony.

In my interpretation, the urchin is also a symbol of fertility. It embodies virgin beauty, associated with flowers—the organs of the land. Sea Urchins are the organs of the sea. They are often associated with the ocean, symbolizing sustenance and the abundance of life it provides.

🖤 This piece was carved a few years ago as a commission piece to commemorate a dog called Kina.
