From 13 February, you may need to pay for COVID-19-related visits to your healthcare provider.
If you are at risk of becoming very sick with COVID-19 you will still get free healthcare.

With the Omicron variant circulating, most people can recover at home. This is due to very high vaccination levels and widespread natural immunity.

Additionally, with easy access to testing and self-isolation, we can focus on those who are more vulnerable.

People eligible for free healthcare
If you are at higher risk of becoming very sick with COVID-19, you are still eligible for free healthcare from your doctor.

This protects those who are most at risk of getting very ill from COVID-19, including:

people with high-risk medical conditions
Māori
Pacific peoples
people with disabilities
those over the age of 65
anyone else that meets the criteria for access to antiviral medicines.

One of our beautiful, kind hearted nurses is retiring on Wednesday! We wish you well Liz, you will be greatly missed at Tinwald Medical Centre by patients and staff alike. We do look forward to hearing what you get up to in this next chapter in your life!!

15/12/2022

Hi everyone, - we have seen a large increase in the number of patients leaving messages for our nurses. We wanted to remind patients that these messages are triaged, and returned in order of urgency. This may mean that if your call is not urgent, it may not be returned. For this reason it is important to state your reason for calling on your message. If you have had any tests, if the results are normal for you, you will not be rung. We ask for your help and understanding.

Merry Christmas to all our lovely patients!

If you’re a Household Contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you will need to self-isolate for 10 days alongside them.

A Household Contact is someone who shares a house or flat on a permanent or part-time basis (for example, shared custody) with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, and has spent at least one night or day in that residence while the case was infectious.

Here’s what you need to do:
- Self-isolate for 10 days from when the positive case tested positive, or developed symptoms, whichever is earliest.
- Get a COVID-19 test on Day 3 and on Day 10 of your self-isolation period, or sooner if you develop symptoms. If you test positive, you need to follow the guidance for people who have COVID-19.

While you are self-isolating, try to avoid contact with the person who has COVID-19 where possible.

If someone else in your household tests positive, you do not need to restart your self-isolation period. You can complete your self-isolation at the same time as the first person in your household who had COVID-19, as long as your Day 10 test was negative and you have no symptoms.

For more information, visit www.covid19.govt.nz/household

03/03/2022

Rapid antigen tests (RATs) are the main testing method being used for people with COVID-19 symptoms, or those who are a Household Contact. Results take about 20 minutes.

RATs are free if you have COVID-19 symptoms, or you are a Household Contact (living with someone who has COVID-19). You will also be able to purchase these at retailers – including supermarkets.

You can get a free RAT by:
➡️ visiting a community testing centre. Find one near you here: www.healthpoint.co.nz/covid-19
➡️ ordering online or over the phone. RATs can be requested on behalf of someone else. You will need access to a mobile phone to validate your order. Go https://requestrats.covid19.health.nz or call 0800 222 478, choose option 3 (8am-8pm, 7 days a week). RATs need to be picked from a collection site near you – someone else can collect on your behalf.

02/03/2022

As an option If you are symptomatic or a household contact you can now request your RATS test online at RATS requester website.

The happy and helpful faces of the
Tinwald Medical Centres Office team 🌸

Reasonably new to the Tinwald Medical team, these ladies joined the Practice post lockdown, a hectic time for General Practices. They began their new roles head on, learning the ropes at a particularly busy time and under immense pressure.
However their positive attitudes and eagerness to help our patients has led them to quickly become the backbone of the day to day running of the Office.
