Using namaste to end a yoga class began in the 1970s when Yoga became popular in westernised countries. Saying namaste at the end of a yoga class is something most people will have experienced. However, while the mystique of the meanings of namaste is beautiful. To a Hindi speaker Namaste is a formal greeting meaning Hello.
The first part of namaste comes from “namaha,” a Sanskrit verb that originally meant “to bend.” Bending or bowing is a sign of respect or submission to authority or some superior entity. Over time, “namaha” went from meaning “to bend” to meaning “salutations” or “greetings.”
The “te” in namaste means “to you,” So all together, namaste literally means “greetings to you.” In the Vedas, (Hindu religious texts) namaste mostly occurs as a salutation to a divinity. For this reason I don’t use it to end my classes, as it is more appropriate as an initial greeting than a final salutation.

Asana is the physical practice of Yoga; the Yoga poses and practice itself.

It is a Sanskrit word meaning "seat" or "to sit" and used to refer to the seated position for meditation.

Asana, or physical practice, was used as a way of calming the mind so the student could sit in meditation. Today this physical expression is what most people understand Yoga to be. But it is just one of the 8 limbs of Yoga.

Today I am a grateful beach 🌊 😇As I plan my year ahead and all the things I want to do and achieve I can’t help but feel incredibly blessed for the year I just had. It was tumultuous, challenging, enlightening and long 😆 But I learned so much and was blessed every step along the way. 💫 So going forward into this new year, if I make one resolution it will be GRATITUDE 🙏 Beginning with a grateful thought or mediation 🧘🏻‍♀️ every morning and see where it takes me.
