The Government has announced that prescription lengths will be extended in the future, but the change isn't in place yet. Right now, the maximum length for most prescriptions is still three months.

The new rules are expected to come into effect in 2026, and there's work happening behind the scenes to get systems and regulations ready.

When it comes in, it could mean that people with stable, long-term conditions may be able to get prescriptions for up to 12 months, but that will depend on what's safe and appropriate for each person.

We'll make sure you have clear information closer to the time, and nothing changes for now.
