Hot tip - did you know that staying hydrated helps with energy, focus, and overall health? 🤭

Aim for eight cups of fluid daily—water, tea, coffee, or juicy fruit 🍉 counts, too. If you’re out gardening or active on warmer days, sip more often!

Cervical screening saves lives - so in November, all our Local Health practices are offering free cervical screening 🩺 for everyone aged 25–69 with a cervix.

Regular screening can find cell changes early, so they can be treated before they turn into cervical cancer. Many people - women, trans men, non-binary, and gender diverse - can benefit from this simple test.🌈

If you’re due for a smear (or overdue!) book your free appointment via https://ashhursthealthcare.nz/. If you’re enrolled with Feilding and Ashhurst Health Care, you can also pop into our walk-in clinic, operating after hours from Feilding Health Care. This will be every Thursday in November from 5:30pm to 7pm.

Spring is a beautiful season, but it also comes with a rise in respiratory illnesses like influenza and RSV in our region this year.🤒

If you’re experiencing a cough, fever, or other respiratory symptoms, stay home to recover and help protect others—especially tamariki and older adults.

Flu vaccinations are still available and recommended, so contact us if you haven’t had yours yet.

Let’s look after each other 🧡 and keep our community healthy! 🛡️

It’s time to talk about those ta-tas, because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Early detection can make a massive difference. So whether it’s time for your mammogram or you’ve noticed any changes, talking to a healthcare professional is always the best step.

If you’re 45 or older, regular 🎀 breast screening is recommended, and it’s now available for people up to age 74.

Support whānau, friends, and yourself by staying informed. Check out this guide for self-checking: https://www.breastcancerfoundation.org.nz/breast-awareness/breast-changes/check-your-breasts

This week is 🧠 Mental Health Awareness Week! It's a good time to do a wee check in on your mental health and wellbeing.

Longer days and fresh air can lift your mood, but it’s okay to need extra support.

Try getting outside daily, reaching out to friends, or using a mindfulness app 🌱.

Our team is here if you want to kōrero, and the Mental Health Awareness Week resources at https://mhaw.nz/ are a great place to start.

What a day at the Rainbow Fair! 🌈✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Fly Palmy Arena on Saturday—the energy, colour, and community spirit were amazing. Our team gave advice, shared resources on PrEP, cervical screening, and STIs, and offered HPV and Hep B vaccinations on-site. We had lots of meaningful conversations about health and wellbeing, and we were glad to talk about the ways we support our rainbow community:

🌈 Offering safe, inclusive healthcare—no judgment, just support
🌈 Respecting chosen names and pronouns every day
🌈 Providing confidential sexual health advice and vaccinations

Diversity and belonging make our community stronger. Let’s keep working together to ensure healthcare feels safe and welcoming for everyone 🩺🏳️‍🌈

Spring in Manawatū - one minute it’s perfect gardening weather, the next you might be chasing your wheelbarrow down the street! 💨

But there’s one other thing you’ve got to watch out for: potting mix and compost can carry a hidden risk, Legionnaires’ disease.

So before you get into the garden, make sure you:
📍Slip on gloves and pop a mask on your face
📍Open bags away from your nose (not into it!)
📍Dampen the mix to keep dust under control
📍Scrub those hands after you’re done

And if you start feeling crook with flu-like symptoms after some garden time, get in touch with us and let us know you’ve been doing garden work. We want you to get the best out of spring, weather permitting!

You might have been seeing a lot of blue around town this month, including the lightsaber meet up in front of the Palmy clocktower!

‘Blue’ September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Don’t miss or dismiss the symptoms:
🔷 difficulty peeing or pain while you pee
🔷 peeing more often, especially at night
🔷 blood in your pee (or other fluids)

If you notice any of these or something feels off, please come talk to us. Early detection and open conversations really do make a difference.

While you’re thinking about your health, if you’ve got balls - make sure to check them! Look for lumps, bumps, or changes, and if something's not normal for you, come chat.

See more info at https://www.cancer.org.nz/cancer/types-of-cancer/prostate-cancer/ and find out more about self-checking at testicular.org.nz
