Hi Everyone,

At last we have updated our web site. It came to the stage when the old site started a life of it's own and became unusable which we kept hearing all the time. It now has a totally updated design, works smoothly and we added the on line booking option too!

The original site was done by an amateur (me😁) in those early years when it was kind of fun to do so. This time we hired a professional and can't recommend him strongly enough. Nikolai did it from scratch in a flash and, most importantly, helped to optimize the hosting, maintenance and features. It was him who convinced us to start the online bookings. Very easy to work with, thank you Nikolai!

I heard a couple of times from my patients that abstaining from alcohol when the back pain plays up is a good move to help it settle. It could be to do with pro-inflammatory action of post-alcohol hangover reaction. So the moral - if you are suffering from musculo-skeletal pain it's worth staying away from boose until it settles.

What have we learned about the underlying mechanisms implicated in hangover pathology?

Promising research. Pregnelone is naturally produced by adrenals. Available over the counter in New Zealand. Definitely worth a try if you've got chronic pain. Need to be reasonably high in dosage - up to 500 mg.

Randomized controlled trial findings suggest possible benefits for a pharmaceutical-grade formulation of the neurosteroid pregnenolone as a "non-habit-forming" treatment for chronic low back pain.

Interesting findings - PPIs (Losec, Omeprazole) - the pills used for heartburn etc. - seem to increase mortality if taken long term. Go for histamine H2 receptor blocker instead

Digital technology doesn't make your child smarter this study discovered. It's better to limit the amount or screen time and go back to basics, they say.

Meeting the 24 h movement recommendations was associated with superior global cognition. These findings highlight the importance of limiting recreational screen time and encouraging healthy sleep to improve cognition in children.

Interesting new study. Systematic review found no effect of Gabapentin or Pregabalin on chronic low back pain. The article notes they are 'very effective' for neuropathic pain. So if it is chronic back pain with neuropathic pain it might be still worth a try??

The gabapentinoids pregabalin and gabapentin are not effective in treating chronic low back pain (CLBP), according to a systematic review and meta-analysis.
