The Public Safety Risk of AI Deepfakes: When AI identity theft becomes a public health risk.
I recently sat down with Mike McRoberts at the National Business Review (NBR) to discuss a sophisticated "deepfake" scam weaponizing my professional likeness to target vulnerable patients.
By "scraping" my clinical YouTube videos, scammers used generative AI to clone my voice and endorse unregulated "miracle cures" for serious eye conditions. This is more than identity theft; it is a threat to patient safety.
The Danger: Patients may delay life-saving treatments for "quick fixes."
The Hurdle: โDark ads" on social media are invisible to victims and nearly impossible to report through standard tools.
The Impact: This erodes the digital trust essential for modern healthcare.
We need better verification standards and a fast-track for medical professionals to report impersonation.
Thank you to Mike McRoberts and the NBR for helping us warn the public.
Digital trust is the foundation of modern healthcare. We must work together to protect it.
