We are incredibly honoured that Unichem Pakuranga has been awarded Pharmacy of the Year 2025.

This recognition reflects not just the services we provide today, but also the proud legacy of the Guthries pharmacy, which has supported generations of families in Pakuranga and the wider East Auckland. Over the years, we have evolved from being “just a pharmacy” into a true Health Hub, piloting clinical services and new models —a place where people can find trusted advice, holistic care, and practical support for their everyday health.

At the heart of our philosophy is people. Our patients are not simply prescriptions; they are whānau, neighbours, and friends. That sense of connection drives us to deliver care with compassion, accessibility, and innovation at the forefront. This award belongs to all of our team members - our dedicated pharmacists, technicians, and retails superstars who treat every interaction as an opportunity to make a real difference.

Looking ahead, our commitment is to continue shaping pharmacy as an integral part of the wider health system, breaking down barriers to equity and ensuring healthcare remains local, personal, and effective. Being named Pharmacy of the Year affirms our vision; We want to thank Green Cross Health for their leadership, resources, and ongoing support, enabling us and pharmacies across Aotearoa to reach our full potential for the communities we serve.

We also want to extend our gratitude to our patients, partners, and community for recognising the value of high-quality community pharmacy care.
What we do is more than just work — it’s a privilege and a labour of love for our community. Every day, we have the opportunity to look after people, to go beyond expectations — whether you’ve been a loyal supporter for decades or are a new face seeking advice and solutions.
As we continue to embrace new tools, technologies, and AI to enhance our systems and efficiency, there’s one thing we will never let go of: the authentic, thoughtful, and empathetic human connection that defines who we are.

Ngā mihi from your team at Unichem Pakuranga 💙

Today, thousands of dedicated health workers will take to the streets to advocate for fair pay, safe staffing, and sustainable funding. While Unichem Pakuranga will not be joining the march, we will be supporting their efforts passionately from our pharmacy.

Unfortunately, if we took collective action, the Commerce Commision would treat it as a cartel-like behaviour under competition law. Our priority is to ensure that we continue to serve our community without disruption. We care deeply about the issues at hand, and while we may not be able to march alongside others today, we remain committed to providing essential care and support.

Community pharmacies, including ours, are navigating challenging times with long term unsustainable funding, workforce shortage and the newly deregulation proposal, but we are dedicated to staying present in our community and doing our best to support everyone.

For the last two days of MHAW we wanted to tukua/give back to our lovely customers some home baked cookies as a little thank you and reminder that we see you, we’re here for you and that YOU ARE VALUED. Mental Health Awareness Week or not - we are always here for a kōrero to help you out in anyway possible to improve your mental health, it takes a village and we would be honoured to be apart of that village.

We also wanted to acknowledge and thank our customer Michael for creating this zen garden for us! It definitely helps us take a minute to pause and breathe throughout the work day - we love it!
Thank you so much and aroha nui to you all. Watch out for an exciting post coming up from us next week 😉

Yesterday for Day 3 of MHAW, the goal was to Be Active/Me Kori Tonu 🧘🏽‍♀️

The lovely Neelu from the Art of Living organised a 35 minute breathing and meditation session to set our team up ready to conquer the day - of course followed by a cheeky coffee afterwards!

We also wanted to give something back for our patients to do, a Morning Energy Boost Routine, courtesy of Neelu, thank you so much Neelu your session and advice were incredibly valuable to us.

Steps for Morning Energy Boost Routine
1.Align with the Five Elements:
- Sky: Observe the sky, connect with the sky openness and clarity.
- Earth: Feel the ground, stay grounded and stable.
- Air: Focus on your breath, sense the flow of air in and out.
- Fire: Feel the warmth in your belly, your digestive fire and inner energy.
- Touch: Be aware of physical sensations, stay present in your body.
2.Lymphatic Drainage & Movement:
- Rise up on your toes and heels alternately.
- Stretch forward and backward gently.
- Blink your eyes consciously to relax facial and eye muscles.
3.Breathing for Calmness
- When anxious, take deep, slow breaths.
- Inhale deeply, expanding your ribcage fully.
- Exhale completely, releasing all tension.
4.Practice at Work:
- These can be done anytime during the day, even at your desk.
- Regular practice boosts energy, calmness, and focus.

Today marks the first day of Mental Health Awareness week, a cause that’s very close to our hearts here at Unichem Pakuranga. The theme of this week is Top Up Together as research shows that a community-based approach to wellbeing delivers the most benefits. We will be sharing resources, advice from our staff, along with making sure we’re having conversations in store about mental wellbeing and of course - looking after our own wonderful staff!Todays question is - what fills up your cup? 🥰

Some of the team had the privilege of walking over Rā Hihi flyover before it opens up to vehicles the other day 🚘 We understand at times it has been challenging to get to us with increased traffic, lane changes and road blocks but we wanted to thank you all for your patience and dedication to getting into our pharmacy, despite how many extra turns it may have taken you!

Happy World Pharmacist Day! We don’t mean to be bias but we think we have the best pharmacists in the world here at Unichem Pakuranga (coming from the marketing girl who is not a pharmacist) - but today is about celebrating all pharmacists and the vital role they play in our communities.

The theme of World Pharmacist Day this year is “Think Health, Think Pharmacist”. Pharmacists are often the first point of contact in the healthcare system, providing expert advice, personalised care, and unwavering support to help people live healthier lives. Pharmacists do so much more than just dispensing medications and can help with ailments such as UTIs, chronic pain, eye & skin infections and so much more.

So shout out to all the pharmacists and the mahi you put into your work, alongside this, another massive shout out to Wilson at Millhouse Pharmacy and his 31 years of service to New Zealand pharmacy; an incredible run Wilson and you have positively impacted so many lives! We will miss you in the pharmacy community.

Thank you everyone for supporting Unichem Pakuranga and our pharmacists 💙

Jenny our intern pharmacist was introduced to the outreach world last week!
Outreaches involve bringing health services and education directly to communities to address specific health needs, which also helps foster relationships between communities and healthcare. Jenny was put in charge of the cold chain, a process that keeps vaccines within the required temperature range - as well as engaging with the Asian Family Services community.
Congratulations Jenny on your first outreach 💙

Everybody wish a Happy Birthday to one of our beautiful pharmacists Claire! 🎂

Claire is one of a kind with the sweetest nature, patience and is extremely thorough - always making sure everything is perfect for our patients.

She runs our sleep clinic in which she has helped hundreds of patients improve their sleep quality, she helps shape our future pharmacist generation as she works alongside all of our intern pharmacists sharing her wealth of advice and knowledge and most importantly, juggles motherhood on top of it all.

Claire, you are amazing and a Happy Birthday once again from the Unichem Pakuranga team 🩷

Seung Jae (SJ) Yeo was one of Vickys intern pharmacists in the mid-2010s and is contributing to enhancing pharmacy workflow through using his tool, Clinically AI.

Through surveying he found a healthcare gap that needed to be filled, and collaborated with Vicky to create https://checkvax.yourclinicallyai.com/

Adopting this tool means that right at the touch of your fingers and at the comfort of your own home you’re able to put in a few quick details and see what immunisations you are eligible for.

Changing with the times and using updated technology to create better patient care is really important to us and we’re excited to see more projects come to life from SJ and Vicky!

And remember, if you’re wondering what immunisations you’re eligible for, go onto https://checkvax.yourclinicallyai.com/ 😉

Chris and Vicky had an incredible time at the Baby Show this year - over the weekend they were able to give over 140 immunisations from pēpi to kaumātua allowing them to support whānau at different points of their immunisation journey.

We know that medical jargon can get confusing, people may be time poor or nervous about immunisations. This weekend we were able to create more accessible health care and take time to open up the conversation to those with questions and wanting to be more aware of the importance of healthcare, including the immunisation schedule.

It was a pleasure meeting so many new faces and creating meaningful partnerships to help those on their health journey, our aim is always to provide accessible, equitable and patient-focused care, and we truly do want the best for every single person who walks through our doors or see us at events.
