May has been full of joy as I’ve dived into a 12-week journey The Artist's Way with a beautiful group of women.

Each week, I look forward to my artist date & the morning pages. Even as an artist who already enjoys creating & writing every day, The Artist's Way continues to add new layers of richness and inspiration to my life. And this flows into all of my work and offerings.

Next Friday 30th May from 7am-9am, I will be hosting a special Art journaling & Tea meditation event, in collaboration with Project Sunrise, a beautiful community by Clarissa Hirst, Floriane Caillot and Pete Whittaker.

It will be a unique Friday morning event, designed to ease you into the weekend with a spark of mindfulness and creativity. We’ve intentionally made it accessible for everyone, with an energy exchange of $35 per person. The event will be held in the cosy space of the Aaiotanga Centre, right in the heart of the city, just a few minutes’ walk from Britomart.

We will be sharing this beautiful lotus tea at our first Art & Tea mindfulness session of 2025 at The School of Modern Meditation next Thursday Jan 30th 6pm-8pm.

Mindfulness practice with tea ceremony, followed by Art Journaling (making collage on a theme - with prompts and all materials provided). No prior experience on art or with tea needed.

This is my favourite Vietnamese lotus green tea that I got from Hien Minh tea house in Hanoi.

I only offer Lotus green tea in summer here in Auckland. It’s a beautiful aromatic, light, cooling and relaxing tea for a warm season. More on this special tea will be shared on the day.

See you next Thursday at SOMM.

One card in my handmade oracle deck.
“Strong back, soft front” a concept that I first heard about from the teaching of Tara Brach few years ago. This concept was originated by Zen Buddhist Roshi Joan Halifax in her book ‘Being With Dying: Cultivating Compassion and Fearlessness in the Presence of Death’

“All too often our so–called strength comes from fear, not love; instead of having a strong back, many of us have a defended front shielding a weak spine. In other words, we walk around brittle and defensive, trying to conceal our lack of confidence. If we strengthen our backs, metaphorically speaking, and develop a spine that’s flexible but sturdy, then we can risk having a front that’s soft and open, representing choiceless compassion. The place in your body where these two meet — strong back and soft front — is the brave, tender ground in which to root our caring deeply when we begin the process of being with dying.

How can we give and accept care with strong-back, soft front compassion, moving past fear into a place of genuine tenderness? I believe it comes about when we can be truly transparent, seeing the world clearly — and letting the world see into us.” ~ Roshi Joan Halifax.
