When I started Māori Millionaire I didn’t even tell anyone I knew.

I wasn’t sure if anything would come of it, so I didn’t want anyone to know if it failed.

I used a logo I created on canva. I brought a Wix subscription & a domain.

I emailed all of the media & said “hey, I’m Te Kahukura, I’m 18, I just started Māori Millionaire. Would you interview me?”

I had no clue what I was up to. But I knew that messy action would still build momentum.

And it did. It wasn’t long before asked if I wanted to write a book.

Not knowing what on earth I was signing up for I said yes.

And though it’s been so much harder than I anticipated - I couldn’t be more grateful to bring this pukapuka to life.

Growing up, I wondered why there were no Māori talking about money. I soon realised why - this system wasn’t built for us. This system thrives off of my people not having any resources to learn about money.

And as an 18 year old, I set out to change this.

But before I could help others - I had to help myself.

Everywhere I looked for education told me to spend less & make more. But I was a drug addict, 183kg and most nights I wished I wouldn’t wake up in the morning.

My beginning was so much different to what anyone else was up to.

But I knew that my beginning wasn’t that different to where so many people in my community start.

So I wrote a book - about how I went from being a drug addict that hated my life - to no longer living paycheck to paycheck, building the pakihi of my dreams - helping thousands and thousands every single year.

This book is not like anything I’ve ever read before.

People talk about taking a ‘holistic’ journey but they don’t reallyyyyyy. I do. Because I know that I would not be here today if I just focused on cutting costs and making more money.

Cutting costs doesn’t address the financial inequity Māori, Pasifika & wāhine disproportionately experience.

Increasing your income won’t help if you’re an addict and spend 100% of it anyway.

My book is a beginners guide to building better money habits & I’m so freaking excited to share this with the world.

17th June, 7pm, come celebrate. Zoom book launch. I’d love to meet you! Sign up here 👇🏽
