Hemp & Co

Hemp & Co At Hemp & Co, we believe food is medicine. Hemp and Co.'s creation was one of those serendipitous collisions of fate, chance and timing.

Through our brand 'Essential Eats', we offer nutrient-rich hemp foods packed with essential fats & amino acids to support your health, energy, and wellness—one delicious, whole-food meal at a time. It all started in March 2019. I was looking to diversify my sports massage business by providing products. While researching for ingredients I stumbled across hemp. I found a research paper praising the benefits of hempseed oil for the skin, especially dry, flaky, eczema skin. Being post-menopausal my skin had become very dry and cracked so I started taking 2 tablespoons of hempseed oil a day. It had a profound effect on my dry hands, I no longer felt compelled to regularly apply hand lotion. More amazing than this, I begun feeling my digestion improve, my energy was balanced, and the pain in my right shoulder (which I had suffered with for years) was gone! I was converted and excited. I couldn't stop raving about this powerful plant. I told my family and friends about hemp so they could experience the incredible benefits for themselves. And so my small idea to add products to my massage business has grown into endless and exciting possibilities of what I can create through Hemp & Co.

Omega-6 fats are often discussed only in the context of inflammation, but they play many roles in the body.

They are used to make substances that help cells communicate — supporting normal immune, blood vessel, and metabolic function.

Reducing omega-6 to “good” or “bad” oversimplifies how these fats actually work in human physiology.

Much of our early dietary advice came from diet–heart trials that replaced saturated fat with omega-6 fats and assessed success mainly by changes in total cholesterol.

By today’s standards, those methods were limited. LDL and HDL cholesterol weren’t distinguished, and broader health outcomes weren’t fully captured.

Current evidence shows that replacing saturated fats with polyunsaturated fats (both omega-6 and omega-3) supports heart health, however more research is needed to determine optimal intakes of different types & sources of dietary fats.

Evidence reviewed in this supplementary paper shows that, in large population studies, higher intake of omega-6 fats — particularly linoleic acid — is associated with a lower risk of heart disease.

This challenges the idea that omega-6 fats are harmful to cardiovascular health and supports a more balanced interpretation of the evidence.

Product Insight: Refrigerate for Long-Term Freshness

While our h**p seed oil is heat-stable for oven cooking (tested at Melbourne University), refrigeration preserves its nutritional value over time. Cold storage slows oxidation, maintaining omega-3s, vitamins, and fresh flavor. Refrigerate after opening to extend shelf life and ensure peak quality—your oil will stay fresh longer and retain more nutrients.

Omega-6 is often talked about as if it’s one single thing, but this paper highlights important differences within the omega-6 family.

Linoleic acid (from foods) and arachidonic acid (made by the body) have different roles and behaviours, yet they’re frequently lumped together in public discussions.

Oversimplifying these distinctions can lead to confusion — and to conclusions that don’t reflect how the body actually works.

You’ll often hear that health depends on having a “perfect” omega-6 to omega-3 ratio.

This paper questions that idea, suggesting the ratio itself may be less important than overall intake and dietary context.

Rather than fearing omega-6, the evidence points toward ensuring we get enough of both essential fats overall — omega-6 and omega-3 — as part of a balanced diet.

Omega-6 fats are often described as “pro-inflammatory,” but the human evidence doesn’t support such a simple story.

While omega-6 fats are involved in normal inflammatory signalling (a necessary part of immune function), higher omega-6 intake in human studies is not consistently linked to higher inflammation.

This highlights the difference between biological possibility and real-world outcomes — and why nuance matters in nutrition science.
