Mother’s Day is approaching, and for many women who have experienced the loss of a baby or child, as well as those who have lost a mother or mother figure, this day can be complicated and painful.

You may feel a range of emotions, including sadness, anger, feelings of being forgotten or unseen, loneliness, or hurt. Your grief is deeply personal, and how you choose to navigate Mother’s Day is entirely up to you.

I have gathered some tips to help you consider what you want and what might work best for you on this day. If you have any helpful ideas to share, please feel free to add them in the comments.

Take care of yourself and be gentle during this time.

As women, we so often find ourselves caring for everyone else—giving our time, energy, and attention—yet rarely pausing to tend to our own wellbeing. Windsor Park Baptist Church is running a Woven event this Friday called Well Within, which is an invitation to do just that.

Together, we'll explore the impact our hormones play on our physical and mental well-being, plus tips on how to self-regulate.

Friday, May 1st, 7pm at The Eatery. Tickets are $25 per person, drinks, treats and goodie bags included.

You’re welcome to come on your own or bring the women in your world along with you. Register your spot here: https://www.windsorpark.org.nz/event/woven-well-within

We are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Sarah in an accident yesterday. Sarah was the Manager of Windsor Park Life Care Trust, which oversees Haven Pregnancy Support.

She was not only our colleague but a dear friend. A beautiful person who will be deeply missed by many. We continue to uphold her family in our thoughts and prayers.

We understand that many in our church family and the wider community are grieving today. For anyone who would like to gather with others, the Windsor Park Baptist Auditorium will be open tonight (Thursday) at 7 PM for a quiet time of reflection and prayer. You are warmly invited to come, sit, pray, and be together.

We enjoy networking with other amazing organisations that are doing wonderful work in their communities. Each week, we provide baby bundles to the families we support, thanks to generous donations of baby clothes and gear. This initiative also allows us to share essential items with other organisations in need. Recently, a large bundle was sent to Littlemore, which supports families at Middlemore Hospital with the assistance they require.

May we continue to help and encourage one another, which overflows to making a positive difference in our families' lives.

It’s been a busy but rewarding start to the year. A baby has been born, baby bundles have been distributed, and meals, along with beautiful flowers from the Windsor Park Baptist Church community garden, have been shared. The Living in Colour program is full and has started off well.

Haven is officially open, and we look forward to serving you in 2026! Our first course for the year:

Buttons Project and Haven Pregnancy Support have partnered to offer the Living in Colour healing and recovery program for women who have experienced abortion, taking place on the North Shore, Auckland.

Abortion-related grief is often a taboo subject, making it challenging to process the emotional impact it can have and difficult to find closure. This unresolved loss can manifest in various ways, including depression, anger, relationship difficulties, anxiety, and substance abuse. Sometimes, its effects may not become apparent until many years later.

Living in Colour has been used successfully in many countries around the world. It gently helps you process what was happening for you at the time, who was involved and the emotional impact of the decision. The final chapter of it celebrates the process of emerging from the “grey zone” of unresolved loss into a life of greater colour and freedom.

This 8-week program runs on Monday evenings, starting on February 2nd and ending on March 30th, 2026, with a one-week break on March 9th. The sessions take place from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
