How do you get 95 guys in one room? Talk about the prostate, of course!

Ostend Medical Centre and Waiheke Health Trust were blown away by Waiheke's men last night who turned out in huge numbers to engage with the doctors leading our Men's Health evening. The guys in attendance asked amazing questions, with our favourite of all being, 'When can we do this again?'

Thanks to our panel - Dr Mark Craig, Dr Alister Somerville, Dr Anna Lawrence and moderator Dr Orna McGinn - and also to our sponsor PlaceMakers Waiheke. The hospitality provided by Waiheke RSA was second to none, as were the spot prizes from Waiheke Golf Club and Babickas Table.

And we agree, let's keep the conversation going and continue to support the health and wellbeing of our beautiful Waiheke men!

The great news is that bowel cancer is over 90% curable but only when caught early.

More than 1,200 Kiwi lives are lost because of bowel cancer each year.

Ask your GP about a bowel screen test kit - which you can do in the privacy of your own home and then return it as per the instructions.

Sadly, the final week of the "IN FOCUS – The Unseen Journey of Compassion, Commitment and Care heartfelt exhibition from Waiheke Health Trust

Showcasing powerful imagery and deeply personal kōrero/stories from our patients and staff.

This is a rare glimpse into the incredible mahi of the Waiheke Health Trust - a behind-the-scenes look at the compassion, commitment, and care that they provide our island community every day.

With stunning photography by Rachel Mataria and storytelling brought to life by communications company NSPR, this exhibition represents hundreds of volunteer hours of mahi, passion and aroha to raise the awareness of the Waiheke Health Trust. Most of all, it honours our patients and staff who opened their homes and hearts to share their stories - a generous act of vulnerability and trust in our close-knit community.

Come and be inspired. Witness the beauty of care in action.

Our very own Dr Orna McGinn from the Waiheke Health Trust 's Ostend Medical Centre is speaking as part of a session on "How to talk with your GP" and how to navigate the public health system.
She'll cover how to prepare for your GP appointment, how to communicate clearly about symptoms and impacts, and advocate for the care YOU need.

Learn about:
* What to bring and how to clearly express your concerns
* Should I ask for a referral and what options might be offered
* Using tools like symptom trackers and the RATE tool (RANZCOG)
* How to leave your appointment with a clear treatment plan and next steps

April is Autism Acceptance Month and we thought that these tips from the NHS were too good not to share.

If you're an autistic person, or if you support someone with autism, we encourage you to remember these when visiting us at Ostend Medical Centre. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible when seeing the doctor!

A reminder to our patients that Ostend Medical Centre will be closed on the upcoming public holidays.

While we hope that you and your whānau stay safe and well over the holidays, if you do need urgent care a reminder that:

Ka Ora Telecare is available to our rural community 24 hours a day on public holidays. You can reach them on 0800 252 672.

Waiheke Medical Centre is open from 9:30am-1:30pm on public holidays.

And always call 111 in a medical emergency!

April is World Autism Month and Ostend Medical Centre is taking this opportunity to remind patients, whānau and ourselves of strategies that can make visits to the doctor easier for those with autism.

Here are some tips from Autism Speaks for parents about how we can work together to make your child's clinic visits run as smoothly as possible.

We'd also love to hear from you - what can we do to make the clinic a more autism-friendly space?

Ostend Medical Centre is THRILLED to introduce our new Practice Coordinator, Rebecca Tomczyk, and Administrative Lead, Mangaia Fisher, to the community!

While Rebecca and Mangaia's calm demeanors and smiling faces may be familiar to many of our patients, they have recently been promoted from our reception team to administrative leadership roles at the clinic.

Rebecca and Mangaia both have that magic way of making patients and staff alike feel cared for and understood. Congratulations to you both and thank you for all that you do!
