Update: Day 4 of my 7 day water only fast. How it has been for me. There has been fatigue and hunger pangs, and a little bit of sleep disturbance. Day 4 has proven to be one of the worst days so far, and I am hoping that things will improve on day 5.

Day 2 of 7 day water only fast. How day 1 was for me. By day 2 of a water fast you stop burning glucose from food you have consumed within the last 12 to 16 hours, and your body starts shifting into ketosis around the 18 hour mark, and from that point on your are burning up your fat stores. I will talk more of the benefits of fasting in the next few days, and what it is like each day doing only a water only fast.

This is another great post about fasting. This doctor is very good at explaining everything about fasting. Fasting has been linked with body repair, reduces the risk of cancer, reduces the risk of dementia, and it can help reverse type 2 diabetes under strict medical supervision. There is also substantial evidence to suggest you can lengthen your lifespan.

This is my first weight loss video for 8 months. I did not lose any weight in 5 to 6 months. Then I lost, 14.7kg in 2 months. It explains why nothing happened in those 5 months, and how I have had such rapid weight loss now.😀

I made a slight mistake in the video. When I talk about identity shift, it means choosing to see yourself as a healthy eater, a thin healthy person. Even though it may not be initially true, if that is your new identity, then it makes losing weight or eating healthier easier because that is who you identify as. I hope that makes sense.

Please read the description in the video on You Tube, and if what you read interests you, I would encourage you to subscribe to my You Tube channel, as I am going to be uploading a heap of new videos in coming weeks.

I have struggled with weight control all my life. I lost 42 kilograms 8 years ago on a sugar free diet, kept it off for 3 years, then put all the weight back on, then lost 30 kilos over a period of 2 years, put 25 kilos back on over a few months after burnout, and now I am making a major life style change by doing intermittent fasting and so far lost 7 kilos in weight in 3 weeks and feel better. I would like to share my journey with you, and hear about your own successes and struggles.

Intermittent fasting is something I started doing about 2 weeks ago. I usually eat within a 6 to 8 hour window and I am choosy what I eat in that window. I have cut out all refined carbs such as sugar, white flour and pasta. Apart from that I eat meat, most vegetables, eggs, rice, beans, nuts and legumes. So far I noticed that I am never really that hungry. I start eating about 1pm and try to be finished by about 7pm. I usually eat one or two meals, and they are of reasonable size. Intermittent fasting is not about starvation but simply eating a bit more mindfully. There is absolutely no snacking allowed and so your body after not eating for a few hours goes from using only the food you have eaten that day to using up fat stores. It can't do that if you are constantly snacking, and also with the constant spikes created by snacking you feel more hungry. Once your body starts burning fat, your body body is burning fat stores and as I am overweight there is no limit as to what it can use. I seldom feel hungry doing intermittent fasting, and so it works very well for me and I eat considerably less as a result.

Here is an interesting link from Harvard Medical school about the health benefits of intermittent fasting. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/intermittent-fasting-surprising-update-2018062914156

The effects of sugar on our brains is a disaster because it makes us more hungry as it makes us insulin resistant. What can we do about it? Reduce your intake of foods with sugar in it such as soft drinks, sweets and look at the amount of sugar added in the highly processed foods you consume. Look at the packets and exercise is also important as it increases the level of a chemical we produce in our bodies called Cotisol. We need Cortisol to deal with stress. Without cortisol, we get stressed much more easily and this can lead us to eat more sugary food.

Why is sugar so bad? Why should we eat less sugar? The intro to this Talk has been performed by the artists of Capitol Musical Theatre (http://www.teatr-capit...

Do you want to lose weight, eat healthily and increase fitness?

Have you struggle with weightloss for years, have type 2 diabetes and are looking for an answer?

This page will create posts about me, Sarah Mercer, who is on a crusade to lose 65kg of weight in one year, and I will try to keep it off permanently, by eating healthily and through fitness.

The page will will include links to articles and videos, and photos about progress I am making and what I am doing that is working with regular updates.

I hope to get doctors, dieticians, fitness trainers and weightloss experts involved in this project.

I will talk about the aim to exercise, walking half marathons and different diets you can use to help you lose weight. If you are eat a lot of sugar and foods high in sugars that is a diet, as is a diet of healthy eating. The plan here is to try and create a permanent diet, lifestyle change, that will lead to loss of weight and weight maintenance.

This is not a quick fix, and it is going to take a lot of work.
