Celebrating a successful week of recruitment. Whilst there was a lot of work involved, it was good to unwind with some Fijian hospitality.

As demand for aged care workers and nurses continues to grow, we have just spent this week meeting some exceptional nurses in that are keen in coming across to Australia.

This recruitment drive will help short term but the Australian government must take steps to ensure that we grow our own nurses as aged care providers simply cannot fill rosters if the workforce doesn’t exist.

Royal Freemasons’ Benevolent Institution is committed to continuous education and training for its staff across all its facilities. It’s one of the ways they can ensure their staff stay current in their field, improve patient outcomes, and understand clinical processes.

It also allows them the mobility to move back and forth in different positions to find their amazing spot in a nursing career.

This training is also preparing the new nurse for a broader scope of practice and provides the nurse with a better understanding of the cultural, political, economic, and social issues that affect residents and influence healthcare delivery

Participants come together face-to-face or virtually every month to enjoy learning amongst peers.

RFBI registered nurses have undergone training through a 12-month program to upskill in growth areas they’ve identified with Anania CQ Limited.

As nurses, “We're always growing; we learn how to communicate with our residents and the members we work with every day, so professional development training really helps with our career and this ever-changing environment.”

Education makes a difference when it comes to nursing practice.

Due to underfunding the sector can't offer nurses competitive salaries and as a result services are being forced to reduce capacity, leaving some vulnerable Kiwis stuck at home being cared for by relatives.

The healthcare sector as a whole is short by more than 4000 nurses.
