🤦‍♀️ Calm your cortisol!

I’ve reflected this morning on the week so far…

It’s been a work juggle/around different roles…

A number of things occurring completely out of my control and yet with consequence that now needs attention…

🙋‍♀️ The desire to be accountable and offer my best whilst keeping others happy

🙋‍♀️ The temptation to react when you know this will not help!!

💡Internally aware and supervising self- fiercely attempting some kindness to self to regulate

💡Critically conscious of regaining balance, finding structure and getting organised!

Has this happened to you in your space…?!

Let’s talk and build our internal supervisor!!

😢 Have you ever had a moment when….

Last week I was caught off guard whilst chairing a meeting and emotion took hold, with tears that flowed…!

It wasn’t an argument, it was a deep feeling of sorrow and disappointment in relation to an abruptly ended (successful) programme (and I think a sense of powerlessness around this)

I happened to come across a post which resonated - adapted here,

I loved the fact he suggests:
➡️ that tears are normal and natural and should not need an apology
➡️ that the higher the tension the higher the release
➡️ to label the tears- ‘tired tears’, stressful tears’, tears that care’
➡️ and that sometimes stress/tension can come in liquid form

Thank you

👋 Small steps forward: Winning one day at a time in healthcare….

When work exposure is significant and it’s hard to know where, when or how to start….dipping your toe in the water may afford you a gentle nudge to achieve a win

Building on this is key….

Setting one daily intention or outcome you hope to succeed in can support you in continuing your journey

Reflecting on how you feel, restoring your confidence and balancing the success with your intentions through self appreciation

Take a balcony view to gain new perspective

Consider how might this look, six months from now…?

🙌 Win your day, one day at a time

Let’s talk again soon…

🕚 We are two weeks into professional supervision sessions for 2025…

👁️ Observations:
The mood is pensive- some deep thought and consideration into the year ahead…

👁️ Whilst change in healthcare seems to be a constant, could we be reaching a tipping point?

👁️ The need to be happier at work, intentional and aware of where to focus energy are high on supervisee agenda’s

🪜 Small steps and micro wins are the key to staying engaged particularly when there is direct and positive impact for patients and whānau

🤞Word of the first two weeks: ‘Hopeful’

👋 So here we are 1 Jan 2025,
I can’t wait to get cracking again - starting with onboarding a new nurse to professional supervision tomorrow.

🔗 Next week we connect again with a full schedule lined up to reflect, be curious, understand, set intentions and explore together.

📝 More work on choosing how, what and whether to respond to challenging situations. Picking up curve balls that threaten to derail you, dealing with them, making a plan, and moving forward

📃 Unravelling and exploring scenarios you haven’t completely figured out YET….

💡And coming up with solutions and renewed energy to keep yourself safe and happy as you continue in your healthcare journey day to day, week to week, month on month.

😊 Let’s make it a great year of professional supervision and coaching together!

🗣️ This week we have been discussing issues around not always getting it right!

😵 Making mistakes
😵 Worrying about making mistakes
😵 Ruminating on mistakes made

💣 All of the above can be a recipe for self destruction
Taking responsibility, owning errors or mistakes is key

😞 It doesn’t feel good and requires some grit to manage and move forward

☺️ Regaining motivation and resetting goals through discussion with your Supervisor and some self compassion are positive steps to take when things don’t go well

❔What are those tricky, difficult jobs, calls and conversations you have been putting off?

The expression ‘Swallow the frog’ is an oldy but a goody which may spur you into action!

It comes from Nicolas Chamfort who quoted

🐸‘Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day’ !!

🕥 Many nurses I’ve been speaking to this week are feeling the pressure, cramming in the jobs in the rush to end of year and also trying to figure out how to prioritise the ‘nasty’ jobs.

Through reflection, for some they realise, they are deferring these tricky jobs, not ticking them off the list and prolonging the pressure and pain!!

➡️ Sifting and sorting through how to prioritise and seek solutions yourself is a key approach taken in professional supervision !
