I've met many fathers in my life. Some face-to-face, and some through the stories of the families we serve. And all have, in some way, inspired the letters I write in our local papers.
The "Dear Dad" letters have been written to all of them...
From the strong men whose foundation has been built upon the true 'Father Heart.' Who've used their position in our lives to shape us for the better, with encouragement, guidance, and unconditional love, growing great families as a result.
To those who've struggled to be fathers. Used their words to belittle, strength to abuse, and inability to control themselves to destroy the hearts entrusted to them.
Weak men whose foundation creates only brokenness within the spirit of their families as a result.
As I've written these letters over the years, I've been mindful of this vast spectrum of 'Father'
And as heartbreaking as the stories have sometimes been, I've taken heart from the knowledge that although some definitely aren't great, on balance, most ARE.
So as we march towards another Father's Day, let's take a moment to honour them.... The fathers who stand or have stood, in a place of strength. To enrich, inspire, love, protect, uphold, and most of all hold us together with their foundational strength.
To you our men, either with us physically or, like my own beautiful dad, living on in our hearts, please know that all you do makes a positive difference to our lives, and we thank God for you, for every day of them

We all had a delicious lunch recently at the Bridgy, to farewell our lovely Kyle as he returns to the hospitality trade. You'll notice no doubt, the empty wine glasses... 😁 the prior contents of which, helped us all to wish him well 😉
Thanks to The Bridge House once again, for another great meal and terrific service. We always love coming here for our team meetings 🥰😁

What a great turnout for the Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights again this year.

The atmosphere is always so fun and vibrant, and the smells from the food trucks as we drive around the parade are delicious 😋
This year I got to drive ahead of Jason in our small electric support vehicle, in which I felt like a very sad and small potato in comparison to our lovely well lit hearse!!! 😂😂😂
Well done to everyone who took part, and especially to those who helped set up and organise this yearly fun event.
Special thanks to Brintyn for sending this video through 🥰

We have a very special young man joining us on Saturday night at the
Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights parade.
Marcus is just 4 years old, and he has decided that when he grows up, he'd like to be a "funerator"
Now, don't go searching your dictionaries for this one people, it's a Marcus trademark word.... invented when he couldn't quite get his lips around the words "funeral director"!!!! 😁
Marcus at 4 years of age, has somehow managed to understand, that being a funerator means taking care of people after they've died, saying nice things to them as you say goodbye, and looking after the practical details, like the burial, so their families don't have to worry.
Marcus has already had some funerator experience, when he recently stepped in to take care of one of his dogs puppies (who sadly died at a day old)
He found a box (an iphone box) and snuggled the puppy into it with some soft tissue to keep her warm.
Dug the grave, with a bit of help from his assistant (AKA his dad) Placed the lid on the box and reverently lowered the puppy into the grave.
Said "I love you" to the puppy.
Dropped 2 beautiful flowers into the grave with his head bowed. Then helped fill in the grave and made sure it was all tidy, before declaring the service complete.
Oh my heart!!!
❣️
We were blown away with the story of Marcus, and his comprehension of what it means to be a "funerator" 🥰
So we invited him to ride shotgun in the hearse on Saturday night!
So... if you're at the light parade and see our hearse with this wee man beaming his incredible smile at you, please wave at him... it'll totally make his day.
