When there is chaos all around I like coming back to the body to find calm, centre and a place of stability.

Here is a couple of little sequences from a class called Calming The Emotions - mindful flow in the Into Being online library.

In this we use abduction and external rotation to work on pelvic stability. There are some fun transitions and a slower more mindful awareness of moving into familiar shapes.

What’s your go-to, to find a place of calm?😌

I love sun salutations but the traditional sun salutations don’t always fit the students I am teaching or the overall focus for the class.

Sometimes it’s nice to add a bit of variability and to include skills or actions that are necessary for what lies ahead.

Not everyone has the capacity to bear weight through the arms and wrists, especially if the are recovering from injury so having alternatives that do not require putting the arms down is also great way to mix things up.

Here are 3 variations I’ve been playing with.

Join Mary ( ) online next Sunday evening for another special edition Yin series at Into Being Online.

As we shift gears towards Autumn 🍂, nature reminds us of the importance of looking within and letting go of what is no longer serving us.

This practice will nourish the meridians of Autumn - the lungs and large intestines. Taking in what we need and letting go of what we don’t.

As humans it can be easy to cling and grasp, holding on for fear of the grief and pain we may experience when we let go.

However grief, like love, is a natural part of this human experience. It’s a sign of how much we have loved. 🥰

Join us for this nourishing practice.

If you are not a member of the online library you can join for free for the practice. Use SpecialYin at checkout.

Initially, intense alignment cues and fixed sequences felt comforting for me.

They gave my anxious brain something to hold onto.
A sense that I was doing it “right.”
That there was a correct shape. A correct way.

But over time, I realised something.

There was no space for inquiry.
No room to feel.
No invitation to sense what was true in my body.

Instead, it quietly reinforced rigid patterns.
That my way was wrong.
That I was wrong.

And bodies are far too intelligent for that.

Through years of study, learning and unlearning i discovered that no single model or theory is complete enough to explain the miracle that we are.

From that process, I created Embodied Intelligence Functional Anatomy.

A distillation of years and hundreds of hours of study.
Blending anatomy, somatics, pain science and lived experience.

This training will teach you to:
• Think critically
• Feel anatomy, not just memorise it
• Understand movement through real bodies, not rigid templates
• Teach with nuance, confidence and curiosity

Because anatomy isn’t a set of rules.

It’s a living, breathing conversation.

March 26–29.

If you’re ready to move beyond formulas and into embodied understanding, I’d love to have you join us.

We have a lot of standing poses in yoga that require external rotation and abduction, drop a comment below if you can name some. 😉🧠👇

Can you name some of the poses that require internal rotation and adduction? Drop a comment below 👇

Hip mobility and stability are also really important as we age for getting up and down with ease.

Here is a nice little warm up series for the hips I have been using to prepare students for standing poses and balancing and maintaining hip mobility.

Getting your students intelligently prepared for the poses that follow later in the sequence as well as thinking about how we can create longevity in the practice, are some of the topics covered in the upcoming training:-

EMBODIED INTELLIGENCE FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY TRAINING. 🧠 💪

If you want to move beyond rote cues, understand how to work with all bodies in an empowering way, or get clear on how you can help students with injuries or limitations then this training is for you.
