Curious what makes our Optometrists so obsessed with myopia management? 🤓💥
We asked each of them to share their myopia story 👀📚
Keep reading to see what’s got them motivated! 🚀👓
Ming:
Growing up, my whole family wore glasses. My mum, dad, and younger brother were all myopic, so I always assumed I would be too.
As I got older, I became myopic, just like everyone else in the family. Regular eye tests became a normal part of life.
Eventually, I became an optometrist with a focus on children’s vision, partly because of my own experience with myopia. I wanted to help slow down its progression, especially for younger patients. Now, I work to make sure that kids today don’t face the same issues we did as a family.
Myopia might be a part of my family’s history, but I’m working to change the future for others.
Jessica:
Both my husband and myself are myopic, so it was not a huge surprise our daughter was diagnosed too- though it started at a much younger age. Fortunately, we now have far more options and interventions to control myopia progression than we did in the past. I hope our profession’s progress with myopia control continues to accelerate that maybe one day we’ll have interventions capable of not just slowing but even reversing or curing myopia.
Nabeela:
I became myopic at age 9, an experience that sparked a lifelong interest in vision and led me to pursue a career in optometry. Now, as both an optometrist and a parent, my journey has come full circle. With a myopic child of my own, I’m deeply motivated—and genuinely excited—by the opportunity to help reduce myopia progression using the latest evidence-based strategies and treatments. My personal and professional experiences fuel my commitment to supporting families on their own myopia journeys.
