Manaakitanga (Hospitality and Care): A fundamental principle in Māori culture, emphasises hospitality, care, and valuing each individual.

Filipino workers built a table. The garden box was the handiwork of Samoan and Tongan plasterers, the soil in the box came from Fijian civil works team. The Māori brothers had peppers, chillies, lettuce, chives, and tomatoes growing right on the table.

The table wasn't just for show. It was the heartbeat and soul of the construction site.

It was where workers shared stories, supported each other, and ultimately became more than just colleagues—they became like whanau (family). And that sense of camaraderie and teamwork? That's what made the work environment truly magical.

Whanau, please consult with your scaffolder and make sure the scaffold on your site is fit for purpose. After the heavy rain, foundations could be washed away from under the scaffold sole boards. Below is a photo I took from a site yesterday morning. It shows the gravel foundation washed away from under the scaffold.
