This month is Breathe Better September🫁

Respiratory conditions like asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and bronchiectasis affect 1 million New Zealanders. That’s 1 in 5 of us.

This is where diagnostic imaging plays a crucial role 💡 From chest X-rays to CT scans, imaging gives doctors a clear view of lung health — helping to:
- Detect hidden problems early
- Track disease progression
- Monitor treatment effectiveness
- Guide life-saving decisions with confidence

This September, let’s raise awareness, kōrero about lung health, and recognise the importance of both prevention and medical innovation in helping New Zealanders breathe easier.

Stronger lungs mean a stronger Aotearoa.

R U OK? Day – Aotearoa New Zealand 💛

A simple question can make a world of difference. 💬

Today we’re reminded to check in with the people around us – friends, whānau, colleagues, teammates – and ask: “R U OK?”

It’s not about having all the answers. It’s about:
✅ Taking time to listen
✅ Letting people know they’re not alone
✅ Encouraging support when it’s needed

Mental health challenges affect many of us here in New Zealand. Starting a kōrero can open the door to hope, healing, and connection.

So today, and every day, let’s look out for each other. One conversation could change – or even save – a life🧡

Who will you check in with today?

September is Cervical Screening Awareness Month🧡

Regular screening is one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer. The new HPV test is quick, easy, and can now be done with a simple self-test.

If you're aged 25–69, and it’s been 5 years (or more) since your last smear, you're due for a free test.

The new HPV test means there will be three options available for having a cervical screening test:

👉You can choose to collect your own sample, via a simple self-test swab, or
👉You can ask your healthcare provider to collect your swab sample, or
👉You can choose to have your healthcare provider take a sample from your cervix (known as a smear test)

Make time this month to get up to date with your screening!

💙Happy Father's Day💙

Today, we celebrate the fathers, father figures, mentors, and role models who show up every day with strength, patience, and unwavering support — both at home and in the workplace.

To all the dads balancing life, work, and everything in between — thank you for your dedication and love. Your presence makes a lasting difference.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the lessons, laughter, and leadership that fathers bring to our lives.

LADIES, LADIES, LADIES...

September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month🧡

Every year in New Zealand, hundreds of women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer — including ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal, and vulval cancers.

Too often, these cancers are detected late because symptoms can be vague or mistaken for other conditions.

Know the possible signs and symptoms:

👉Persistent bloating or abdominal pain
👉Unusual bleeding or discharge
👉Changes in bladder or bowel habits
👉Pain during s*x
👉Ongoing fatigue

If something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it — see your GP. Early detection saves lives.

This month, let’s kōrero openly, share information, and support the wāhine in our lives to prioritise their health. Together, we can raise awareness and improve outcomes for gynaecological cancers in Aotearoa.

Share this post to spread the word — it could help someone recognise the signs sooner.
