I’m often asked how I “get” kids to engage. The secret? I don’t “get” them to do anything. I meet them where they are.

In this space, we follow the child’s lead. We celebrate their interests, we validate their communication (whatever that looks like), and we build trust first.

Because a child who feels safe and seen will communicate more than a child who is simply being told to “comply.”

Connection > Compliance. Every single time.

That’s a wrap on sessions for 2025!

We’ll recap the year more seriously in the coming days, but for now, I’m grabbing a good book, some snacks and my favourite drink and settling into some relaxing.

The team are away until January 12th, and we can wait to see you again relaxed and refreshed!

Christmas can be a new experience minefield—new people, new foods, and a total break in routine. If things look a little different at your house this year, that is okay.

Our top 3 for you today:

1️⃣ Functional Communication over “Polite” Speech: If they use their AAC to say “go” instead of saying “Thank you” to Grandma, that is a HUGE win.

2️⃣ Sensory Safety First: A regulated child is a child who can connect.

3️⃣ Release the Guilt: You don’t owe anyone a “perfect” holiday performance.
