There are new cases of measles in our community 🤧

Low immunisation rates in Aotearoa means that a measles outbreak is high risk, particularly for unvaccinated people.

Please be alert to any symptoms and call us, or Healthline, if you are concerned. It’s also a timely reminder to check that your whanau’s immunisations are up to date - the measles vaccine is free for most and quick to do, so pop in & see us.

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, one of the most common cancers in New Zealand. It can affect anyone, and usually shows up in people over 50 (though younger people can get it too).

Nurses Charlotte, Dearna, and Amber-Lee from Urgent Care Franklin are getting behind this cause, which hits close to home for many of us.

Bowel screening is offered every two years for FREE to people aged 60 to 74 through the National Bowel Screening Programme. It’s a simple test that can be done at home and helps detect bowel cancer early, when it’s easier to treat. Talk to your doctor and ask for your bowel screening test kit 🙌

The more we talk about it, the more lives we can help save, so let’s keep the kōrero going 💙

We had a very special visit from the tamariki of Pūkekohe Hill School this week, who stopped by our partner clinics, Franklin Urgent Care and Seddon Medical, to deliver their beautifully decorated “Cups of Kindness.” 😌

These gifts were part of the school’s Puea Day celebration: a day to honour the legacy of Princess Te Puea Hērangi and to recognise the people who support and strengthen their community. Each cup came filled with handwritten thank-you notes and small donated items, created with aroha by the students as a way to show appreciation. ✨

As the school beautifully put it:
“Āhakoa he iti, he pounamu – Although it is small, it is precious.”

Ngā mihi nui to the team at Pūkekohe Hill School for this thoughtful gesture, it truly brightened our day 💙

A confirmed case of measles has been reported in Auckland ⚠️

A person recently returned from overseas has been confirmed with measles and visited several locations of interest while infectious.

If you were at one of these places at the specified times, check your immunisation status.

You are considered immune if you have:
- Two documented doses of the MMR vaccine
- Been born before 1969
- Previously had measles (confirmed by a blood test)

If you’re not immune, or develop symptoms, call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for advice. Please stay home until you’ve spoken with Healthline.

Measles symptoms to watch for:
- High fever (over 38°C)
- Cough, runny nose, sore red eyes
- Rash starting on the face, spreading to the body

People exposed who are not immune are being asked to quarantine to prevent further spread. The MMR vaccine is free for everyone 18 and under, and for those eligible for free healthcare.
