Franklins Strongest 2026

First competition of the year and I am very happy with how it went. The big goal for 2026, starting with this competition, was to get U90 without an aggressive water cut! and that I did.

No aggressive carbohydrates restriction, no celebrations with good food missed, everything in moderation. I definitely cleaned up the last two weeks prior to ensure I wasn’t holding any unnecessary gut bulk, however I kept carbohydrate in, and fluid high, all the way to the end.

Honestly, I am so happy to be under 100kg, I have not weighed U90 since I was 16 🤣 it’s been great, I’m able to do activities with Pearl, like bouldering, I have more energy and a clearer head. 😎

Now, in terms of competition performance, that was great too, I exceeded all of my training best, and placed 4/6 in a good competitive line up. It was great to be back amongst it, and I really felt in my element.

Onto the next one!

Grateful to receive recognition for best Sports & Exercise Research and best overall Physiotherapy Research.

The path here wasn’t straightforward. In 2019, I experienced a moderate TBI and struggled with memory, confusion, and everyday tasks. Life felt uncertain, but one goal remained steady, a dream I’d shared many times with Liezel: to study physiotherapy.

What followed was a reset. Starting again, choosing meaning over comfort, and committing to steady progress. Recovery became gradual and consistent, brick by brick, just like strength training.

With the support of my wife, parents, and mentors, I started in 2020 with one paper at a time. In 2022, I was accepted into physiotherapy and continued to take things week by week.

Alongside study, I continued coaching, travelling with athletes, my own training, and showing up for family. It wasn’t perfect or easy, but it was meaningful.

Sharing this not as a highlight reel, but as a reminder of what’s possible with patience, consistency, and strong support.

Grateful for the journey and what’s still to come.
