Caring for others can take a quiet toll.

In our work, we see the weight people carry, and we know you can’t pour from an empty cup.

This Women’s Health Week, we’re reminding our team, our clients, and our community: looking after yourself is not a luxury. It’s how you keep going.

Today, that might mean a walk in fresh air, a phone call to a friend, or simply a few deep breaths before the next thing.

Your wellbeing matters too.

đŸŒ± This morning at our kaimahi hui, one of our amazing counsellors, Marlize, shared how she uses worry dolls in a therapeutic setting, a simple, powerful tool to help clients express and release worry.

We even made our own worry dolls as a team. It was hands-on, calming, and a beautiful reminder of the small rituals that can support healing.

Thank you, Marlize, for bringing your wisdom and creativity to the team 💚

It’s Friday, and that means pausing to acknowledge the quiet wins.
A child who opened up for the first time.
A whānau who showed up, even though it was hard.
A colleague who held space with care.

In the thick of trauma work, progress can feel slow and invisible. But healing is made of these moments, small steps, consistently taken, with compassion.

To our team, our partners, and every survivor doing the hard yards: we see you. 💙

Rest if you can this weekend. You’ve earned it.

We are seeing more examples of digital abuse, especially in the context of family violence and post-separation harm.

This new resource from Netsafe, Women’s Refuge, Shine and The Light Project offers a clear, accessible overview of tech-facilitated coercive control (TFCC): what it is, warning signs, and how to get support.

Sharing here as part of and the important national kƍrero about online harm.

Digital abuse is more common than you might think.

Recent data from Women’s Refuge, shows that over 82% of people said they experienced some form of technology-facilitated coercive control (TFCC) - where phones or digital tools are used to intimidate, monitor, isolate, or control.

Key findings include:

42% were tracked in ways they didn’t agree to
47% had private messages checked without consent
55% were contacted far more than they wanted
64% were stalked or monitored after separation - including via their phones

In collaboration with Women's Refuge New Zealand ,Shine, and The Light Project, we’ve created a new resource to help people recognise, understand, and respond to TFCC.

Whether you're experiencing it yourself or supporting someone who is, the guide covers warning signs, impacts, and where to get help.

We see the harm social media can do every day.
At Counselling Services Centre, we support rangatahi dealing with the fallout of online abuse - bullying, harassment, body shaming, exploitation, and the mental distress it causes.

We’re backing the call for a proper inquiry into the online harm faced by young New Zealanders, and the role government, business, and society should play in responding to it.

Submissions are open now and close Wednesday 30 July. If this matters to you, as a parent, teacher, youth worker, or young person, have your say.

Online safety is part of the bigger picture of wellbeing.

The Free to Lead, a practical toolkit from Netsafe and Manatƫ Wāhine | Ministry for Women is designed for women in the public eye, but the insights are relevant for anyone facing online abuse or pressure.

This Netsafety Week, it’s worth a look, whether you’re supporting others or looking after your own safety online.

Warning: this post contains content that may be upsetting

We are seeing more cases in the media involving covert filming, intimate moments recorded without consent, often by someone known to the victim.

This RNZ article highlights the legal grey areas, how tech has changed the landscape, and the very real harm caused.

At CSC, we stand with survivors of all forms of s*xual harm, including image-based abuse.

If you or someone you know needs support, Safe to Talk is available 24/7 at 0800 044 334 or safetotalk.nz. You can also contact us directly.

Warning - this story contains content that may upset some readers.

Voyeurism has been in the news frequently over the last few weeks.

On Wednesday, news broke that a Dunedin man in his 20s pleaded guilty to filming himself and a woman performing a s*x act without her knowledge and sharing it on his rugby team's group chat. His flatmate also pleaded guilty to filming a video of her while she slept.

It's unclear how often people are recorded without their consent in intimate situations and settings, but advances in digital cameras are likely making it more common.

📚 New books for our spaces!

Thanks to the John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams Foundation, we have been gifted copies of two beautiful Aotearoa titles: Arlo and the Orca and Ardie Savea. These books are now available across all CSC sites and can be used in sessions or just enjoyed in a quiet moment.

The Foundation works to support rangatahi in Auckland to live more active, connected lives through sport and recreation. We are grateful for the support and for these thoughtful additions to our spaces.

đŸŒ± International Day of Hope đŸŒ±

This year, our counsellors Danielle and Marlize came up with a beautiful idea to help our teams reflect on what hope means to them. They created simple packs for each site with prompts and symbols of hope to get people thinking and talking.

Jasmine helped pull it all together and made sure everyone got a pack (complete with lollies).

Thank you to everyone who took part and made time to reflect and share.
