We are seeing more examples of digital abuse, especially in the context of family violence and post-separation harm.
This new resource from Netsafe, Womenâs Refuge, Shine and The Light Project offers a clear, accessible overview of tech-facilitated coercive control (TFCC): what it is, warning signs, and how to get support.
Sharing here as part of and the important national kĆrero about online harm.
Digital abuse is more common than you might think.
Recent data from Womenâs Refuge, shows that over 82% of people said they experienced some form of technology-facilitated coercive control (TFCC) - where phones or digital tools are used to intimidate, monitor, isolate, or control.
Key findings include:
42% were tracked in ways they didnât agree to
47% had private messages checked without consent
55% were contacted far more than they wanted
64% were stalked or monitored after separation - including via their phones
In collaboration with Women's Refuge New Zealand ,Shine, and The Light Project, weâve created a new resource to help people recognise, understand, and respond to TFCC.
Whether you're experiencing it yourself or supporting someone who is, the guide covers warning signs, impacts, and where to get help.
