Regular ovulation is how women make the hormones estradiol and progesterone, important for general health, not just to make a baby.

By suppressing ovulation, most hormonal birth control switches off those hormones and does NOT replace them.

Yes, hormonal birth control can cause depression, hair loss, headaches, gut damage, and autoimmune disease. And, yes, experts have pretty much known that since the 1960s.
The book "In the Name of The Pill" opens with the question "What did they know, and when did they know it?" and it's a harrowing account of how medicine spent decades choosing to NOT SEE the hazards of contraceptive drugs.
Read the book at your own risk. You may end up feeling as devasted as I do since I read it. Medicine has not had women's best interests at heart.

I’m glad to see this research, especially given the intense focus on estradiol and progesterone for older women’s brain health. Young women need hormones, too! Yet many don’t have healthy levels because hormonal birth control suppresses ovulation.
