Dove Hospice & Wellness

Dove Hospice & Wellness Supporting people in our community to navigate holistically through life-threatening illness. Dove Hospice is a standalone, registered charitable trust.

The Dove model of care means caring for people from the moment they are diagnosed with a life threatening illness through to end of life or to wellness. Unlike other hospices we support people who have a terminal prognosis and those who expect full recovery, ‘bridging the gap’ between diagnosis and end of life, or diagnosis and wellness. Our model of care falls outside traditional government funding so we rely totally on the gift of time from volunteers, the gift of product to our eight Dove Hospice Shops, fundraising, grants, bequests and donations. This year marked the debut of our new Volunteer of the Year Award, proudly named in honour of our Patron, Isabella Tedcastle. The 2025 award was presented to our fabulous Remuera volunteer Christina Pusztay, recognising her outstanding contribution to Dove Hospice over her 13 years of dedicated volunteering.

We also acknowledged three exceptional volunteers who have consistently gone above and beyond in their service to Dove: Phil Selwyn, Melissa Hunt, and Miti Toomata.

Our warmest congratulations to all our award recipients and heartfelt thanks for your continued dedication, generosity, and support throughout the year.

Living with Bereavement Group

In February 2026 we will be offering a new group for those who are grieving the death of a loved one due to incurable disease. Our 'Living with Bereavement' group will meet fortnightly over a six-month period on Thursday mornings. The group will cover topics of interest to the group while offering a chance to connect with others with similar experiences of bereavement.

Dandelion Group

In February 2026 we will be offering a new group for patients of Dove House who are living with advanced metastatic or incurable disease.

The name Dandelion Group was chosen as the dandelion symbolizes resilience, perseverance, hopes and wishes, stemming from its ability to grow in difficult conditions and the tradition of blowing its seeds to make a wish.

The group will meet fortnightly on Monday mornings over a period of six months and cover topics of interest to the group while offering a chance to connect with others experiencing similar things.
