This night out at Eden Park to see The Blues vs the Hurricanes was such a blast! With massive thanks to Will and Able for making this happen for us, we loved cheering on the lads with hot dog and chips for dinner!

❄❄❄ Term 3 / Winter programmes go live this Saturday 23rd May at 10am ❄❄❄

Our Programme Coordination team has been busy planning our Winter programmes and we have some exciting things coming. We have weekend trips to Taupō, Waihi, and Paihia, to name a few, and a ziplining Outdoor Adventure in the Coromandel! If you love a day of relaxation, keep an eye out for our Mindfulness Morning Urban and Self-Care Day. For our sports lovers, we have plenty of bowling and golf programmes, and an opportunity to head to Eden Park to watch the Black Ferns!

Term 3 also means it is time for two of our most exciting programmes – Recreate’s Got Talent and the National Ball! You don’t want to miss these.

We hope you love our Term 3 programmes.

From the team at Recreate NZ!

In the Recreate NZ news this week! Term 3 / Winter programmes go live next Saturday, 23rd May!

In staffing news, we are so happy for Lily as she steps away for a time on maternity leave. This allows for Leela to progress through to Lead Programme Coordinator for Christchurch, with Skye as Assistant Lead. And we warmly welcome Hannah as Lead Programme Coordinator in Auckland, and Ruby Cross to the Christchurch team as Programme Coordinator!

And finally, a huge thank you to Auda, Karyn and Margaret for being a part of our video series on our impact!

While we are so sad to see Jess Drumm make her farewell from Recreate in Auckland very soon, we are so excited to welcome Hannah to our team as Lead Programme Coordinator! Hannah is in training in all things Coordination and Facilitation at the moment, so please say hi as she introduces herself to o...

Our Ask

“A donation towards Recreate is a donation to opening up and widening the lives of these kids. I think for people who are looking to support, I think you’ve got to look beyond what a financial contribution is. I want you to look at what it does to your life, what it opens up in your life, what it brings into your life. So I encourage you to really think beyond the monetary value, to look beyond what it brings into your life.”

Our Team

“You carry something that goes beyond what it is a job, it’s something that comes from here, and to me that’s really important. And I think the children themselves, the kids that come to Recreate recognise it. They wouldn’t be as free I don’t think, as what they are, if they didn’t recognise that they are valued, they are looked upon with caring and with welcome.”

Our Offering

“If Recreate wasn’t providing the services that they do, Sam’s life would be completely different. She would lose her social engagement. Her life would become just as it had when she were a young teen, much more isolated and a lot smaller life. Recreate gives her a larger life.”

Our Impact

“The relief, that I can actually just relax and go, ah, he’s at Recreate for this many hours. I don’t have that responsibility hanging over me. I don’t think theres a word in English for it, or any other language! It’s wonderful.”

Our Story

“Recreate is all about life-changing opportunities for young people. At Recreate NZ, we provide programmes for young people, whether that’s the adventure programmes, the youth camps, the recreational opportunities, the social connections we provide, and the life skills and work experience programmes”

Over the April school holidays we embraced the mighty Motutapu Island Youth Camp with our amazing camp hosts at Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp (Official).

While diligently monitoring the impending Cyclone Vaianu, and with great comms with our skipper of Riverhead Ferry and our camp hosts, we crossed the Waitemata safely and our adventure began!

Our participants took on the low ropes and flying fox, archery, rock climbing and abseiling with bravado!

Our Youth Camps are helpful to so many young people and their families by building independence, confidence and resilience, as a parent in our community has attested:

"The camps are so good for (my daughter) to develop her independence. When she goes away normally it’s to family so being in charge of herself and responsible for herself and belongings has really changed her attitude about her capabilities. It’s made her so much more confident with day to day organising of herself and now I’m not allowed to help for the weekend getaways at all."

Whangārei Kayaking Adventure recap:

This kayaking trip was SO AWESOME! We went around the Whangārei Basin and everyone had so much fun. We paired everyone off in double kayaks and they worked well – a good lesson in teamwork too! The guides, Mark and Connor from Pacific Coast Kayaks were amazing with our crew.

We also enjoyed Kiwi North and the Whangārei Falls, what a fun time up north!
