On the eve of Anzac Day, are you prepared to stand alongside our veterans and service personnel to remember and honour all those who have given so much for New Zealand?
The world has changed. What was a normal month ago, no longer reflects the society of today. But we have always been an innovative and resilient nation of people. While we are unable to go about our daily routines like we used to, nor are we able to commemorate our special milestones such as Anzac Day in traditional ways, we as a people can still ensure that we hold to the values that the Anzac spirit is based. Anzac Day means so much to both New Zealand and Australia – our fighting spirit and sense of justice and fairness are at least partially formed from that defining event over 100 years ago. It also forged the Trans-Tasman spirit that, now more than ever will be needing in coming times.
Now is the time to show that spirit. At 6 am tomorrow morning (25 April), take a moment to remember and honour our Anzacs and all those who have served for New Zealand. Remember that this ‘spirit’ is also what we will need in the coming months to get our ‘awesome little country’ back on its feet. In many ways, Anzac Day 2020 will mark the beginning of a defining chapter in New Zealand history. Let’s harness that Anzac spirit, by honouring our past and present and start to build our future.
