Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that all the systems of the body are mapped out in reflex points on the feet, hands and ears. Reflexology is a well established holistic therapy which treats the mind and body as a whole to achieve a state of general well-being. An increasing number of people are using this safe, natural therapy as a way of relaxing and harmonising the body. I have completed two diplomas each in Reflexology and 'Anatomy and Physiology' and am a member of Reflexology New Zealand. All RNZ practitioners have satisfied important criteria in relation to professional knowledge, training and continued education, and are bound by the code of ethics and code of practice set down by Reflexology New Zealand. Your treatment will be undertaken within the premises of my school The Auckland School of Reflexology in the convenient suburb of Albany, Auckland, New Zealand.

As the second month of this year gets going I thought this post may be helpful.

Managing stress in our day to day lives is an essential part of maintaining both mental and physical wellbeing. 😩

In a fast-paced world, simple, accessible practices can make a powerful difference. 😌

🧘‍♀️We know that one of the most popular methods is yoga, which combines movement, breath, and mindfulness to calm the nervous system and improve resilience.

📚Reading is another popular and effective option, allowing the mind to slow down and escape daily pressures, even if only for a short time.

🌴Spending time walking in nature has been shown to lower cortisol levels and restore a sense of balance. Fresh air, greenery, the beach and the sea, and gentle movement work together to ground the body and quiet any racing thoughts you may have.

🎧Listening to music is equally powerful. The right genre to suit your style and preference at the time, can soothe emotions, lift mood, and create moments of calm throughout your day.

While all of these approaches are valuable, of course you know I will always put Reflexology at the top of the list. 😉

By encouraging deep relaxation and supporting the body’s natural healing response, reflexology offers you a uniquely restorative way to manage stress. ❤️

Holistic or Wholistic❓Have you ever wondered the difference❓

It seems Holistic (from Greek holos = whole) is the standard, widely accepted spelling.

Whilst Wholistic is a variant spelling emphasizing "whole" and is sometimes preferred.

I also found this explanation from http://grammarist.com/spelling/wholistic-and-holistic/

"Wholistic is the philosophy that all parts of a thing are interconnected. In medicine, wholistic treatment is the treatment of a person as a whole, mind, body and social factors. Related words are wholism, wholistically. Wholistic appears in 1941 as a cross between holistic and whole.

Holistic is the philosophy that all parts of a thing are interconnected. In medicine, holistic treatment is the treatment of a person as a whole, mind, body and social factors. Related words are holism and holistically. The word holistic is first seen in 1926, holistic medicine appears in 1960.

Wholistic and holistic are words that are interchangeable, though holistic is used more often when referring to holistic medicine and wholistic when referring to a philosophy of life."

Either way Reflexology fits the bill. Wahoo‼️😉❤️

When you ask a reflexologist how reflexology works, you should hear a short, carefully prepared ‘speech’ that may include information about the following:

🔹reflexes and foot maps/charts
🔹zones and body relation lines
🔹stress and the stress response
🔹current theories and philosophies
🔹what to expect in your session
🔹etc, etc, etc.

Now, don’t get me wrong, this is a good and necessary ‘speech’, BUT I do love these words from the creator of modern day reflexology as we know it, Eunice Ingham.

“The why and wherefore I am not prepared to explain, I only ask that you try it out.”

Reflexology requires a partnership between giver and receiver (practitioner and client), for change and long lasting results.

Reflexology sessions on their own will not be the answer you are seeking, if you do not play your part.

Reflexology is a conscious healing opportunity. Grasp the opportunity fully on all levels and in every way.

Do the 'homework' that your practitioner may recommend for you to do, always following your logical thoughts and common sense, and tune in to your feelings, thoughts and sensations.

You, me and reflexology need to work at this together. 💙

I can remember a time in the first few years of starting my business when I would worry that people would not return for their regular reflexology sessions in January after the interruption in routine due to the Christmas/New Year holiday period.

I can remember thinking, “oh they’ll be all rested and relaxed and won’t need Reflexology”.

For many years now I’ve known that to be not the case.

At 3 weeks into this January, and only two weeks back into my working year, I reflect on this once more.

Actually not everyone has had a break or holiday, and their need for reflexology has remained the same.

In some instances people are returning bronzed from the sun, and fairly chilled from a holiday, but still with some ni**le or other that they know reflexology will help their body address.

And that is the thing about our bodies ... There is almost always something going on, something that reflexology can support our bodies to iron out.

And even on the very rare occasion when there is really nothing going on at all, then reflexology is just yummy!

You don’t always need to need reflexology to have it. 🩵

Most of my posts are about what 'Reflexology is'. But here's one about what 'Reflexology is NOT'!

Reflexology is not a massage and not a medical treatment!

Nope, it's not! ❌

First and foremost, reflexologists do not diagnose illness, nor do they practice medicine. Only licensed physicians are allowed to do that according to law. Neither does a reflexologist treat specific diseases. (Even though most of my clients tell me very specifically what their problems are, and I may know medically what ailments they suffer from.)

Reflexologists never proceed as if reflexology is going to cure the problems. We may spend extra time working the reflex area on the feet (hands/ears/face) that correspond to the part that is portraying the symptoms, with positive results, but our work can not be classified as a medical treatment as such.

Yes, people do report experiencing relief from symptoms, reduction in pain, balancing of imbalances and improvement in many areas of their health and wellbeing.

Reflexology interrupts the patterns of stress in the body. Both external and internal stressors. It gives the body the opportunity to tap in to its innate healing abilities, and thus be able to get on with trying to heal itself!

So, reflexology does facilitate healing, and very often that may be alongside the medical advice and treatment you are receiving from your doctor, or other medical practitioners.

That’s awesome isn’t it! ❤️
