Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that all the systems of the body are mapped out in reflex points on the feet, hands and ears. Reflexology is a well established holistic therapy which treats the mind and body as a whole to achieve a state of general well-being. An increasing number of people are using this safe, natural therapy as a way of relaxing and harmonising the body. I have completed two diplomas each in Reflexology and 'Anatomy and Physiology' and am a member of Reflexology New Zealand. All RNZ practitioners have satisfied important criteria in relation to professional knowledge, training and continued education, and are bound by the code of ethics and code of practice set down by Reflexology New Zealand. Your treatment will be undertaken within the premises of my school The Auckland School of Reflexology in the convenient suburb of Albany, Auckland, New Zealand.

I’ve been saving this video to share with you all. ☺️

These 2 cute pairs of reflexology foot models, are the design work of Catriona Plunket of Golden Egg Holistic in Ireland. 🇮🇪

You’ve probably seen them around on social media already, but I was absolutely delighted and blown away to be gifted them when we both attended the Irish Reflexologists' Institute event in Sligo together.

It was wonderful to meet Catriona, have a hug, and receive my gift in person. 🥰

Thank you Catriona. 🙏 They now have a prominent place at my school in Auckland, New Zealand. 🇳🇿

There’s a huge advantage to arriving back in New Zealand straight into a weekend with my Diploma in Reflexology students.

Particularly if there happens to be an uneven number for the practical swap sessions.😉

I don’t often put up my feet for a session in the learning environment, as I want to be available to watch, and assist the students where necessary.

But …. They are nearing the end of their diploma training, and have become confident and accomplished practitioners, and don’t really need me anymore.

Plus … Reflexology is an ideal way to help the body recover, and the body clock restore, after long haul travel across a number of time zones. ✈️

That is Tracey in the photo giving me a well needed session yesterday. 🥰 Thank you Tracey.🙏

Thank you to Bianca from Lymphatica - Lymphatic Therapy and Body Detox Facility. 🙏

Her post says it all …. About the lymphatic system, from a physical and emotional perspective, and about RLD and the amazing Sally - Sally Kay Reflexology.

Aren’t we fortunate to have RLD in our reflexology practice. ✨✨

The profound support of this phenomenal therapy is impacting so many people worldwide. 💝

The Healing Touch Beneath Your Feet:

Reflexology Lymph Drainage and the Legacy of Sally Kay👣💚

When we think of the lymphatic system, we often picture gentle hands moving across the body in rhythmic motion—stimulating detox, relieving swelling, and supporting immunity. But what if some of the most powerful lymphatic stimulation could begin… at your feet?

That’s the beauty and brilliance of Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)—a specialised reflexology technique developed by British therapist Sally Kay, whose work has changed the landscape of lymphatic care. 🌍✨

Who is Sally Kay? 🧠🌱

Sally Kay, a reflexologist based in Wales, developed RLD while working with cancer patients suffering from secondary lymphoedema (especially post-mastectomy). Her goal was simple yet revolutionary: to support lymph drainage using reflexology, a modality that stimulates points on the feet corresponding to organs and systems in the body.

What she discovered was extraordinary:
Not only did RLD reduce swelling, but it also improved pain, movement, and wellbeing—without needing to physically touch the affected limb. 🙌

Her work has since gained recognition across clinical, complementary, and international health sectors.

What is Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)? 💆‍♀️💧

RLD is a gentle, structured sequence of movements performed on the feet (or sometimes hands) that directly target the reflex points of the lymphatic system. These movements are inspired by manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) but translated through reflexology zones.

The technique follows the lymphatic map of the body, focusing on:
• Thoracic duct
• Lymph node clusters (cervical, axillary, inguinal)
• Spleen & liver
• Diaphragmatic flow

All without needing to physically touch these organs. 🌿

Clinical Benefits of RLD: 🩺🌸

Research and clinical case studies have demonstrated RLD’s effectiveness in:
• Reducing lymphoedema volume, especially post-surgical or post-cancer
• Improving limb mobility and range of motion
• Decreasing pain, tension, and heaviness
• Supporting detoxification and immune response
• Promoting deep relaxation and emotional release

Because it’s non-invasive and deeply calming, RLD is especially helpful for clients:
• Who have undergone surgery 🏥
• With fragile tissues or nerve damage 🧬
• With emotional trauma stored in the body 💔
• Who are unable to receive full-body MLD

How It Works: A Gentle Path to Flow 🌊✨

The feet house a microscopic map of the body, and when reflex points are stimulated, they trigger a neurological and energetic response in the corresponding organ or system. In RLD, practitioners use specific, repeatable techniques to mimic the pumping and sweeping of lymphatic fluid.

What makes RLD unique is its ability to:
• Influence lymph flow without direct limb manipulation
• Activate parasympathetic nervous system (rest and repair mode)
• Address both physical and emotional stagnation in the system

RLD and Emotional Healing 🕊️🫶

The lymphatic system is often called the “emotional river” of the body—carrying not just toxins, but also the residue of trauma, grief, and stress. RLD, like MLD, offers clients a safe space for emotional release as well as physical detox.

Many clients report:
• Feeling lighter (emotionally and physically)
• Reduced anxiety 🧘‍♀️
• Clearer thinking
• Improved sleep 😴
• Restored connection with their bodies 🩷

Why Choose Reflexology Lymph Drainage? 🌿💫
• Gentle yet effective
• Ideal for those who are sensitive, post-operative, or recovering from illness
• Can be offered alongside MLD, oncology care, or holistic protocols
• Backed by ongoing research and clinical support 📚

And most of all—it’s a treatment that honours the whole person, not just the symptoms. 🌈

The Legacy of Care: Sally Kay’s Ongoing Impact 👏📖

Sally Kay’s vision has led to thousands of practitioners worldwide being trained in RLD. Her work bridges the gap between clinical precision and compassionate touch, reminding us that even the smallest contact can spark big healing.

Reflexology Lymph Drainage is not just a therapy. It’s a quiet revolution in the way we support the lymphatic system—with presence, precision, and peace. 💗

As I sit at Heathrow airport I am thinking ahead to when I will once again be hosting Barbara Scott in New Zealand, and delighted that we will see each other again after our lovely day together last week.

It’s wonderful that she is travelling from England to New Zealand to teach once again. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

She will be teaching her Reproductive Reflexology Course at my school in Auckland on 27 - 29 October.

I have been keen to do this training myself for a while.

Reproductive Reflexology (or Reproflexology™) can be used as a stand-alone treatment to enhance natural fertility, or with all forms of assisted conception including Clomid, IUI, IVF and ICSI. It can also be used to support individuals and couples using surrogacy or donors in IVF cycles.

Looking forward to welcoming practitioners from our association, Reflexology New Zealand, and possibly some from Reflexology Association of Australia if they feel like a trip across the Tasman?

Please register on the website at this link. 💻

I think the card I pulled from the beautiful pack of ‘Life Wisdom Cards’ designed by Sarah Warwick, that Sally gifted me sums it up. Please have a look at my photo to read the words. ✨

The commitment and love for offering Reflexology, for those at end of life, continues. After all, with years spent in this specialty area, and a deep appreciation for all the nuances for both the person and their whānau experiencing, and the practitioner, the knowledge is not only worth sharing, but vital.

This work of compassion travels in challenging spaces. And there is much to consider, to ensure a safe, consented and supportive Reflexology session can be received well. So it’s a pleasure once again for Karen Middleton and myself, to bring our final Level 2 Palliative Care Course for 2025, through the Auckland School of Reflexology Learn from experienced practitioners, who can provide ongoing support, and build upon your already sound body of knowledge. Take your professional practice to new heights, whilst developing specialist skills.
