Free MMR vaccine for adults 💉
Measles cases have been confirmed across several regions in NZ — are you protected?
Measles is one of the most contagious viruses. It spreads very easily from person to person by breathing in air after a person with measles has sneezed, coughed, talked or even just breathed. Measles can also be spread after touching surfaces contaminated with the measles virus. Measles can cause serious health problems, and about 1 in 3 people with measles will need hospital care.
Please monitor for measles symptoms which include:
• An illness that begins with high fever (over 38 C), cough, runny nose, and sore red eyes (conjunctivitis)
• A rash, beginning on the face and gradually spreading down the body to the arms and legs. The rash lasts for up to one week.
Getting immunised with two doses of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine (after the age of 12 months) is the best form of protection against measles.
The MMR vaccine is now free for adults as of 1 October 2025! After one dose of the vaccine, around 95% of people are fully protected, and after 2 doses, 99% of people are fully protected.
If you aren’t immunised or aren’t sure, please call us to discuss your eligibility with one of our nurses. If you or your whānau feel unwell, please stay at home and call the practice first.
