This week is Cancer Rehab Awareness Week in Aotearoa, a time to highlight the importance of rehabilitation as part of cancer care.

At PEAK, we are proud to offer specialised cancer rehabilitation services through the internationally recognised PINC & STEEL programs. Our trained physiotherapists are certified to deliver tailored rehabilitation support to people affected by cancer.

Why cancer rehab matters:
Cancer and its treatments can result in long-term physical and emotional challenges, including fatigue, pain, reduced mobility, and loss of function. Cancer rehabilitation helps individuals regain strength, improve quality of life, and return to work and everyday activities with confidence.

Our services include:
PINC Program – designed to provide individualised support for women recovering from all types of cancer, from diagnosis through to survivorship.
STEEL Program – developed specifically for men, focusing on rebuilding strength, function and wellbeing during and after cancer treatment.

In a recent inservice we dove into the connection between mind & the body.

A randomised control study on 11 dental students found that a small wound took 40% longer to heal under high stress during exam time vs the same wound during vacation. Levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (critical to healing) dropped by 68% when under stress.
