Dr. Zaid Matti #mskdoc Musculoskeletal Medicine Specialist with an interest in Regenerative Medicine and Pain Management

30/04/2026

Dr. Zaid Matti is bringing four years of real-world experience implementing culture-expanded stem cell therapy within a regulated clinical environment in New Zealand to the IOF MAX with TOBI this June.

His session, "Personalized Culture-Expanded AD-MSC Therapy: Feasibility, Biobanking, and Safety from a Four-Year Experience," will cover a practical framework for personalized MSC biobanking and repeat use without repeated harvest — plus safety observations, including dose-dependent immune-mediated responses and their clinical implications.

Knee osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes of chronic pain worldwide and a leading reason patients seek specialist musculoskeletal care. Historically, treatment options sat between two unsatisfactory extremes: short-term symptom relief injections, or major joint replacement surgery.

Honoured and excited to be speaking at the WIRM World Congress 2026 in San Francisco.

I will be presenting our four-year experience with personalised culture-expanded autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell therapy, including insights into feasibility, biobanking, and safety observations from a New Zealand practice.

Regenerative medicine is entering a remarkable phase of growth. With better systems, stronger science, and more meaningful collaboration, the future of this field is becoming increasingly exciting.

I am looking forward to sharing our experience, learning from outstanding colleagues, and contributing to the global conversation on the future of regenerative medicine.

San Francisco next.

Proud to be speaking at World Congress 2026 on our four-year experience with personalised culture-expanded autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell therapy from a New Zealand practice.

The session will focus on feasibility, biobanking, and safety observations.

Regenerative medicine does not need more hype. It needs better evidence, better structure, and better clinical discipline.

Looking forward to the discussion.

Weight loss and Pain

Osteoarthritis (OA) is not merely a disease of “wear and tear.” It is a biomechanical–metabolic–inflammatory disorder. Excess body weight increases joint loading, but—more importantly and under-appreciated—it drives systemic low-grade inflammation, insulin resistance, and adverse cytokin...

🌟 Christchurch, you were brilliant.
Wrapped two back-to-back PRP & orthobiologics workshops at —packed rooms, sharp questions, and a clear signal: GPs are ready to bring regenerative medicine into everyday practice.

We covered:
• When PRP actually helps (and when it doesn’t)
• Patient selection & protocols you can use on Monday
• How biologics can delay or avoid surgery for the right patient
• Ethics, evidence, and outcomes—no hype, just data

Huge thanks to everyone who came, engaged, and challenged. Let’s keep raising the standard for musculoskeletal care in NZ. 💉🦴

🦴 Hyaluronic Acid in Osteoarthritis – Still Worth It? 💉

In the world of osteoarthritis treatment, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is making headlines—but Hyaluronic Acid (HA) still has an important role!

🌿 HA helps lubricate the joint and can relieve pain in early OA, or when PRP is not suitable—such as in active cancer or blood disorders.

💡 In New Zealand, Durolane and Synvisc are two HA options available (note: usually not publicly funded). For patients seeking short-term relief, HA can even be used with steroids.

🔬 Evidence shows that while PRP may offer longer-term benefits, HA remains useful, especially when combined with PRP—a strategy that may provide the best of both worlds.

📊 Curious how they compare? Check out our quick infographic ⬇️
