Recently we have seen many people struggling with their breathing. Shallow breathing or chest breathing can cause neck and shoulder pain.

Repetitive shallow breathing decreases oxygen intake, which can impair healing, and cause muscle stiffness and pain.

Learning to breathe deeply will take time and practice.
Place one hand on your belly and the other on your chest. Using your breath, try to move the hand on your belly. The hand should move away from you on inhale and towards you on exhale. Start practicing while lying on your back before going to sleep.

It helps to build upper body strength.
Helps to foster independence
The lifting of the head helps to develop the spinal curve in the neck and strengthen the neck muscles

Even when mobility becomes an issue, it is still possible to stretch.
Stretching in a seated position is completely possible and it still provides the same benefits.
Steated stretching is not just used for people who lack mobility.

It can also come in handy during the following situations:
Injuries - injured arms and legs can prevent standing or getting on the floor
Modes of transport - sitting in a public bus or in a car can be a great time to get some stretching in

Low Back pain is one of the most common areas of complaint for people with back pain. Whether its standing, sitting or banding over, it is a very uncomfortable area to have pain.
Simple stretches can make a big difference to pain levels, can increase mobility and allow for a better quality of life.

It seems so simple, yet so many either forget or do not prioritise stretching.
Neck stretches are simple and can be done anywhere.
Each stretch should be held for a minimum of 30 seconds. If holding the stretch causes pain or discomfort, do multiple sets for a shorter time period.

Stretching is an important component to maintaining flexibility, ease of movement and reducing certain pains within the body.
When a muscle becomes tight, the muscle fibers bunch together restricting movement and in some cases causing pain.
Stretching the muscle helps to lengthen and loosen the bunched fibers.
The most important part of stretching is holding the pose!
Holding the stretch means getting the most out of lengthening the fibers.
